Just say he was doing a "function check" I know soldiers and NCOs that would feel stupid because they don't know what that is. I have yet to meet a civilian that even knows what that is.

There are people who are like "OMG TREAT EVERY GUN LIKE ITS LOADED" and then they tell some story about a friend of a friend who shot himself because he thought a firearm was unloaded.

Yeah, that's why you check the magazine and the chamber every time you're about to handle a gun. Even if I am positive it's unloaded, I always check first. Ammo doesn't just magically materialize from Narnia into random chambers.

Though it would be awesome if that happened. Free ammo, yay.

My new toy/project is making me :) today. I was surprised with a Ruger mini 14 yesterday. Can never get enough semi-autos. I'm going to give it a collapsible stock and pistol grip.

Me too. I am dying to hit the range but I haven't shot a rifle in a long time. I'd probably be the range bitch right now.

I haven't been in a while either. Part of my problem is I don't want to use ammo. It's messed up, but I don't feel like I have enough so I'm trying to stock up. Especially on .45, and .50ae because .9mm and 5.56 I know I'll be able to pick up when SHTF. When I get a hunting rifle I'm going for a 300 win mag because police and military snipers use it so I will be able to pick that up also.

I am thinking a rem 700. They are good cheap weapons and I'll start building it in to a tactical sniper rifle.

I'll try to talk you into a Ruger 44/77 or 357/77. They're more expensive but higher quality than the Remington 700 series.

We had problems with the REM 700 series in 'Nam. The snipers complained that the trigger would go off when they didn't do a thing. Some actual accidental deaths were to blame. I can't post a gun link while I am at work but just Google REMINGTON 700 trigger problem.

I actually liked the rifle myself. They do have a fix for it.
