Question - not receiving support when depressed

When you let others know that your depressed/suicidal thoughts and need support whether in person or on a group site and no one checks in with you-how would it make you feel? (Not this site)

Awful, abandoned, alone, and desperate. This happens far too much. I get really agitated and suicidal thinking is worse, to the point it pushed me over once.

Another thought just came to me - for me it can also feel invalidating. Like, I'm saying something really difficult to you to try to prevent YOU getting hurt and you're not taking me seriously?? That's where the anger comes in for me.

Just a thought. If the situation happened on some "group site" please remember folks are there for a reason and may not be healthy enough to react in ways you need or feel appropriate. Also most sites dont have professional supervision that say an IRL group in a therapeutic setting would have. Peer support can be nice but remember typically you are asking for a certain behavior from a group with issues that may prevent their appropriate response.

I try to remember that other people have lives too. It may hurt that they don't reach out, or ask how you're doing, but people have busy lives these days, many people are way to self absorbed and many don't know what to say or do!!!!! Hurt-yes.... simple answer-not so much....

That sucks, and I would probably reevaluate those relationships tempered with sheCat's observations above.

When I needed help like that I checked in with a local hospital and got the support and guidance I required. It helped..

Yes-we have a crisis center but I won't go. Bad experience from when I was younger. If I went I should consider myself homeless and unemployed as well.
