because I don't trust the American Press for the most part.
I listen to the BBC and the CBC a lot too. A friend got me started reading Al Jazerah (I know I really messed up the spelling!), although I haven't been reading it so much lately. I didn't find that interesting so much because it was unbiased as because it was one of the things that people elsewhere in the world were using to form some of their opinions. I thought it was good to have an idea what they were reading and maybe thinking. These days, I listen to public radio a lot. I'll grant that a lot of people think they are left wing propaganda too. What I appreciate is they will spend time on a story. Take the time to dig into it. Interview multiple people and at least try to include people who represent differing views. I don't think you can get much useful information from a sound bite.

It's really hard, I think, for the average person to know who to believe. It seems like there are a lot of people with agendas and many of those agendas don't have much to do with providing accurate information.

I have to agree with @Friday , I try to get information as close to the source as possible. I learned, from my ex-husband, the importance of "independent confirmation of the facts". LOL Sometimes it's hard to be sure, but it's a little safer dealing with what someone actually said, as opposed to what someone said they said.

As far as I know, only Fox admits to being entertainment. My hubs was interviewed for a Peter Jennings show on ABC before he died and he was not paid because it was the news division, not the entertainment division. So, word to the wise, when you see talking heads on news shows, they are not being paid. They are just there out of the goodness of their hearts or their willingness to spread their knowledge.

I get my news from multiple sources and CNN and MSNBC consistently are in tune.

Bottom line? The Mueller investigation goes on. The Senate and House investigations go on. No one can deny any of that. None of that is fake news.

The thing that makes me crazy is how sometimes a dozen White House people tell things to journalists and still it seems not enough people have a grip on how bad things really are in this country.

And the only reason those people would say this stuff to journalists is because they see that this president is a whack job and they don't know how to make things better.

Ack, sorry, I should probably move this post to U.S. Politics. Will attempt to do so now.

f*ck other people interpreting my events for me. Give me t...

Friday, I agree with you 100%. I can remember, even many years ago, how the news about Libya, while I was there, even by the BBC, was reported, either totally incorrectly, or simply not reported at all. That's how they control their agenda. The agenda today is so tightly controlled, it's unbelievable. Americans think they are getting the truth. LOL. Over and over again, on different topics, you can hear ten different news sources regurgitate the same, false, tripe, phrase, with the exact same words. That means they are all reading from the exact, same, false, script. They have no shame. It's pretty disgusting.

@scout86 Scout, I'm just like you, I listen, and read, alot of foreign news services, and cross reference in the hopes of getting at the real truth. A lot of times, intersection of news stories from different countries gets you closer to reality. In the US, whereever the fake news is consistent, the truth is probably the opposite of what they are trying to get you to swallow. Izvestia and Pravda, in the Soviet era, have alot in common with The New York Times and The Washington Post today. Sad! ;)

I was thinking today how he might have saw these people, he shot, as video poker ( because he's played so much of it) My guess would be "slots" instead of video poker..but that was so fast ( the firing of those rounds) Or, as fast as a slot machine will go with nine or ten grand in it. ( at one time) I know about it and dated a "high roller" but it was never my thing.

Slot machines go pretty damn fast when you have a few grand stuck in them (And ) your punching a button for a couple of hours.

Hodge, this is an example of how divided we are. I read it 180 degrees opposite from you. To me CNN...

I'm teasing, but you kind of set yourself up here. Don't go pretending you're too good for garbage news. You were just spreading some Facebook nonsense. If you had done more research, you would have found that some of these claims originated with someone that is associated with a legit Islamophobic hate group. I think it really shows how insidious this stuff is.

I think a big reason that people don't get good news is that they don't want to admit that it's successful because it feels good. It is validating and tells you what you want to hear. You don't have to think hard about it, because nothing is going to challenge you. Or they tell you that believing this makes you special. It's knowledge that everyone else is too dumb or brainwashed to be receptive to. Everyone falls for it at some point because it's designed to prevent critical thought and appeal to our emotions.

Nessa, that was not nice! Why are you attacking me? :p The video is ligit, it's all over the internet. You can't hide the truth, no matter how hard you try. What do you believe more? What someone tells you, or your own eyes? The truth hurts, I know. :D Remember, "You shall know the truth, and the truth will set you free." ;)

Do you mean that you do actually believe the video or are you kidding? It just shows a random white dude that may or may not be named Steve. Have you heard of Pamela Geller? It's kind of hard to find someone that is more biased. I'm very familiar with her work, and she's a racist with an agenda. She used the massacre committed by Anders Breivik as a fundraising tool and made racist comments about his victims and sympathized with him. She is complicit in encouraging violence against Muslims and other immigrants. She's denied genocide. She has supported anti-Semites even though she's Jewish.

She's still trying to support the argument that the shooter had secretly converted to Islam based on no real evidence. That video is just a means of swaying people that are afraid of their guns being taken away into listening to her hate speech.

@Nessa7. Nessa,......I .......believe.......my.......eyes! :D. You are trying too hard to indict Pamela Geller. Are you telling me she is an anti-Semetic Jew?????? That's a tough one to swallow! A fundraiser based on a massacre????? That's another tough one to swallow! I'm starting to choke, here, you're killin' me, here. I think you may be speaking with a fork tongue. :p This is all second or third hand information you are giving me. I need proof.... like I gave you. As they used to say in Germany, "Show me your papers!":whistling:

When Obama was running, a friend sent me an email (before social media was big) with a story in attempt to convince me of a bunch of crap, that he wasn't a US citizen, etc. This article actually said "its a fact, check it out on snopes. (assuming that suggesting others check it out on snopes would be enough to convince people that its the truth. I checked it out on snopes and sent the link back to her. Of course snopes said the information was all false. There are so many reports that float thru social media now, such as Huffingpost and many others. I agree with Nessa, that people believe what they want to believe if it fits with their core beliefs about something. While we have to chose a political party, we do not have to follow every bit of news that fits that party. Its better to listen with an open mind...use our critical thinking skills...and discover that we want more of the same things than different things.
