Ssdi approved

So I found out today my SSDI has been approved on my initial application. I am happy, but feel so bad about it. I feel like a total waste. This can't be my life.

I have been on it since 2002. I recently got myself a volunteer position, working 15 hours a week as a Senior Companion. I get a small stipend of $2.65 an hour. I buy stuff with it to entertain my client. I end up making about $160.00 per month and I have a lot of fun. My client is a sweetie. You have options. You don't have to let your life be a waste. If you are creative, maybe you could write poetry or paint. I crochet lap blankets for folks who live in nursing homes. There is always something you can do, even if it is just to go visit folks who live in nursing homes. Many of them don't get a lot of visitors. They really appreciate it when people come to just say, "Hi, how are you?" and listen to them.

That is a very good idea. I am in intensive treatment right now, but want to make future plans which hopefully means I can go back to work one day.

Congratulations on your approval! I got approved in 2014. It has been helpful and I too hope to go back to work. I’ve gotten to go to some amazing programs both in and outpatient, and I believe with the help of my T I will be able to at least start part time work in the next 12-18 months. Social Security has a back to work program so as I explore I will keep people updated.

Please do! I actually feel more depressed since I heard the words approved. I haven't been out of bed today. It's like I don't know what to do with myself now.

You can call SS and ask them for the flier about it. It is for free and explains everything about being on Disability and working, like how much you are allowed to make before you become ineligible for benefits, etc. How long your Medicare will stay in force if you work is explained too, if I recall.

I know how you feel. I’ve gotten to be an expert at deflecting the “so what do you do for a living” question.

I am going through the process and yea I feel worthless. I come from a strong family of workers and it seems to be embedded in my mind - not working equals - laziness. I am more fearful of telling my story, I just don't want to tell anyone else, so I am hoping to get approval soon. I did get an attorney right off the bat, I have been in the legal field for years and but I think I did the right thing by using an attorney as typing this is challenging for me. Thank god for spell check.

The only problem with getting an attorney right away is they don't really do any work until you are denied the first time.

I got an attorney after I applied, but before I knew if I was approved or not. Inwas approved right away and now that attorney will get almost 6000 from me.

I understand how you feel but im happy for you, i really need to do this but feel like it will be so hard getting what i need to be approved, i just started seeing a doctor cause i avoided it my whole life, now it feels like a necessity and i waited too long, how wad the process, what did you do
