Our Pets

The last pet thread was apparently several years ago, and since my cat is sitting on me right now, I'd like to learn more about everyone's pets.

I'll start! My cat is named Ferdinand. He's black and about 6 years old. My wife desperately wanted a cat, having had many cats in her life, but I was horribly allergic. Well, I wanted a cat too, and after many years of shots ... we got this guy.

He's my spirit animal. Like me, he is wary of strangers but loooooves his family. He follows me around all day and usually sleeps with me at night. I never knew having a cat could be so great.

Has anyone ever had a cat whose one eye turned brown seemingly overnight? I just noticed this in our oldest guy Robert and after googling it, I am freaking out. I'm getting him to our vet asap, but, of course, vet's closed now, so I have to wait, but I'm so worried after what I read -- possible malignant melanoma, feline AIDS, some other possibilities that don't seem as bad or as likely. He seems fine, normal activity level, appetite, etc., but anyone who's had a cat as a furbaby knows that doesn't always mean much.

I was just scrolling through the socials page with Noodle giving me kisses out of the sheer helpfulness of his furry little heart thinking, 'hey, there should be a pets page' when here I find one!

Noodle is one of our four ferrets. We also have Murdoc, 2-D and our newest, a baby girl named Dell. Bonus points if you know who they're named after! In addition to the ferrets, we also have a beautiful silver point tabby cat, a chihuahua and a rat.

Can you tell I'm an animal lover?

I have a massive 1 year old pit/lab/hound mix. This dog is so sweet and gentle. She's good with small kids, she's amazing in the car, and she listens (most of the time). We're still getting the walk thing down.

She's also good about interrupting fights and being an emotional support. My partner and I both have mental health issues so when we argue or get upset she'll sit on us or get between us to break the tension.

We got really lucky as first time pet owners and I'm so grateful for her. When we have some extra income, I'd like to get one of those pet subscription boxes for her.

Fiona is 14 years old mix Maine Coon kitty and I adopted her from the shelter when she was a kitten. And Jasmine (the best thing that came out of my marriage because my ex actually picked her out) is a purebred Persian that was a little baby my ex and I picked out of 3 different litters of kittens! She is 8 years old which is so hard to believe! She’s a tiny little girl and she cracks me up constantly! She is such a clutz tripping over her own feet and sometimes falls when she tries to jump from the smallest spaces. Such a little piggy too! She loves Fiona and wants to lay next to her if Fiona is laying next to me but Fiona doesn’t like her as much. I say she tolerates Jasmine if she wants to. It’s so cute because Jasmine will bow her head down to Queen Fiona in hopes that Fiona will give her loves and lick her and Jasmine is in heaven. Or Fiona will slap her and jump down and lay somewhere else. Fiona has the elegance of a queen except when she races across my bed to wake me up at 3 in the morning!

I just had taken Fiona to the vet because she’s been getting really thin even though she’s eating and she has hyperthyroidism. She’s going to have surgery this month to have a section of the thyroid removed and then she won’t have to take medication for the rest of her life. I hate that she has to be scared. Getting her teeth cleaned was traumatic for her and she wouldn’t come out from under the beds for three days or she would come out but see me she was so scared of me and run back under. It broke my heart and it’s going to be worse when she has surgery. Of course it’s what is best for her. It’s just us three together all of the time and I love them so much!

They are my world and I couldn’t do this life without them.

You are amazing to be so allergic and get shots to be able to give Ferdinand a home!

My mom lives next door and she has two big boy kitties and I have two girl kitties. I just love them! They are amazing and I feel they are like my guardian angels. Throughout the years they change spots to where they decide to sleep but there was a recent time when both kitties slept right by each of my sides and followed me around, never leaving my side and I thought it was interesting because that was new. I was getting really weak and had a bad cough but I didn’t go see a doctor because I always had different symptoms pop up out of the blue and would turn out to be nothing so I just kept plugging along. Come to find out I actually had both lungs full of blood clots and should have been dead. (Long story) But, they knew something was wrong. I know animals are sensitive to these things.

Did you see the cats on Anericas Got Talent!? Oh my goodness!!! Amazing!!
