I am a night person, and have been since I was quite young. It's my natural circadian rhythm.

I find that I'm frequently labelled as lazy, because I lack energy during the day and need a later start to my day. I'm also frequently told I just need better sleep hygiene.

I'm wondering if there's a correlation between PTSD and being a night person.

Are you a night person?
 
I am nocturnal, but things are such that I go to bed often while it's still light (this time of year.) I am not a morning person at all and start to come back to life when the sun is over the yardarm. A bunch of things conspired to make this happen. I get up at 5 or 5:30 and take a cup of coffee back to bed. I have a daughter in a program and the bus comes a 7:00. I always am there to see her out. I wake up more at night now and need less sleep due I guess to my age. I'm tired. Sometimes I go to bed by 8:00, sometimes I'm up till 10. Used to be I didn't feel good till about 10. Those days are gone. : )
 
Ditto, @brokenEMT ! I like the quiet, solitary, feel of nighttime. Sometimes I will go to bed and wake up a couple hours later and just get up and then crawl back into bed around 4:30-5:00am. This time seems to be when I can sleep deeply for another two hours before having to get up. And I am only getting up because the pup and cat are begging for food. It is hard to sleep with a cat rubbing her face in yours each morning. UGH. I also don't like to have anyone talk to me, first thing in the morning. Grump, here! NO TALKING!!! I need time to wake up and gather my energy and thoughts before I have to deal with decisions and housework. I have always been this way. I can adjust if I have to but always fall back into this routine. I think at nighttime, there are less demands and undue noises and distractions that stretch my tolerance levels. It is the ultimate isolation, I guess, for a short period. If hubby was not sleeping at night, I would also be vacuuming and making noises, doing activities normally done in the daytime.
 
PTSD immediately changed this for me. Once a "normal" sleeping/wake person, I now can be awake at any time and for a long time without discomfort. But, I prefer nights and while it goes against most peoples beliefs, I feel far safer. The shadows protect me and allow me to see without being seen. That provides me a sense of control.
 
1900-0700 are my bright zone. It started when I was a kid always trying to break my previous record on how late I could stay up. Fast forward to today. At work everyone wanted day shifts, I was like.... Hell Yeah! Gimme the overnights!! I don’t even tackle day shifts. I’m afraid I’d blow up in flames
