Hi - Post Traumatic Stress From Miscarriage

Hi Brittany,

I really hope that you don't have it because you are very young. I offer my condolensces on your loss. Even if your baby would have survived you may have still suffered from Post Partum Depression. I had a miscarraige several months ago. I was in the very early stages. My PTSD is out of remission right now and I am an older person. Because of this, I really did not feel a sense of loss or anything other than the inconvenience of excrutiating pain. My PTSD, when not in remission, makes me oversensitive to the plights of others and insensitive to my own.

Its a very weird disease and I hope to God that this is not the beginning of a long 'weirdness' for you. GET HELP!!!

This Message is for Nicolette.

Could it have been all possible that he suffered traumatically regarding the situation such as you did? According to your story above he probably did. In therapy, we learn about 'fight or flight'. Sounds like he took a flight.

Maybe he thought you got over it, which is why he sought to contact you. Maybe he has been feeling some kind of guilt over the years over the loss, and the only person in the entire world to share that with would be the person who shared the experience. Maybe it was one sufferer reaching out to another. After all, it was his child too.

You don't know all the details and like I said when I posted there was more to it than what I wrote. I posted to share my story to hopefully help Brittany not feel so alone. If your abuser contacted you would you just jump in with open arms. I don't know whether you have had an abortion but the guilt which goes along with making such a decision, even if the right one, is horrendous. He agreed to the abortion.

You have really offended me. You also have no right to make this all about him when I am talking about me.

Finally, if you are a PTSD Sufferer you would know that I was in fact traumatized by the whole event.

Nicolette

I was really hoping I didn't offend you. I am very very sorry and hope that this will not have an effect on our being cordial and sharing information in future discussions.

I may have put too much emphasis on the loss of the child. I really wasn't sure if the incident above is what caused your PTSD. Now that you have responded, I realize that there may have been physical abuse as well and my response may have appeared insensitive, for that I apologize.

PTSD immobilized me at three major points in my life. I learned in therapy that if we hold on to it, that it grows like a cancer. During good times, our PTSD is in remission. Anything can disrupt that including being contacted by your abuser. That could cause major disruptions.

The reason I am saying all of this is because PTSD is not prejudice and it sometimes causes us to act outside of the ordinary. As a veteran, I happen to know that one thing a lot of the male sufferers do is beat the hell out of their girlfriends and wives. Its just one of many of the symptoms of their disease. My therapist told me its the fight or flight mode. Some fight, some take a flight. Everyone hurts the people who are the closest to them. Some people suffer from PTSD from things that happened when they were kids and can't remember. Something that is traumatic to me might not be traumatic to you at all. I am very sorry, it just sounded like you both were traumatized by the experience of losing a child. The fact that you already had a living child to come home to could have even been more devasting if this were his first and he made a desicion both of you obvious regret.

I cannot excuse some of the things that I have done to myself as the result of having PTSD and I just really feel for all sufferers. In discussing our trauma with others, we always stand a chance that someone will not see things in the same light. In therapy, we are asked not to discuss anything specific with anyone other than our therapist, especially if one is sensitive.

While in inpatient therapy, some of our sessions were on the same floor at the same time as male sufferers. I had to accept the fact that some of these guys were abusers and was forced to comfront my worse fears. As far as abortion, its easier on guys when the woman totally makes the decision on her own. Then there is someone else to blame. But to contribute.... Someone in this forum told Brittany that it is not PTSD until much later on after the trauma.

I commend you and Brittany for being able to share your trauma in this forum. You have accomplished something that I probably will never be able to do.

I'm probably not going to be putting much more into these posts anymore because I don't want to offend anyone. But in closing, I am only stating that if you already had children, and he had none - even if you both made the decision to abort - you still had a kid to come home to and he didn't. Trauma.

Once he told you he regretted it, you both needed therapy. He probably took the loss hard and probably blames your for letting him talk you into it.

Ptsd takes on different forms to different people. At the point when he realized he made a mistake and took flight - you became his abuser.

Holding on to the Past Trauma causes serious problems later on in life.

P.S Nicolette

I'm saying this because right about now your kid would be a teenager. You did mention that he was the one who contacted you. Any person with a conscious would wonder What If? Some people do want to confront their abuser.

Thank you for your post Pia. I see your point. Unfortunately this man was abusive to me in other ways but this thread was not about bagging an ex boyfriend. I shared to help and really don't want to know where my ex is at as he didn't give a shit about me when I needed him the most. After the abortion I had medical complications with blood pouring down my legs all alone in a house in the mountains and he just stayed with mummy!

Having another child does not make the decision of abortion any easier in any way as one child never replaces another. I always wanted a second child but now my time has passed and I don't blame him for it as if I had kept the child it would be likely I would be stuck dealing with an abusive man who is the father to a second child. I have had to do this with my first child's father (who is a horrid man) and after 17 years of doing that it never gets easier.

Personally I don't think that not putting anything into future posts is the answer for you as that only holds you back and takes away the opportunity of others to learn from your experience which may be the perfect outcome for them.

I will say I was very hurt as just sharing is personal and exposes you let alone having someone question it and it "seemed" like you were more interested in his reaction. On reflection though I have sometimes put a different "perspective" out there and have not met with the best of reactions initially. We don't know each other nor can we see each other so it is difficult to gauge what a person means versus just reading text alone. I will also tell you that this is the first time I have publicly spoken of my abortion (even some family members don't know) so you did hit a really raw nerve with me. This was not for you to know but now you do so I ask you to consider how huge a step that was before going any deeper into it.

I need to take a break from the forum as I am too upset however I wanted you to understand why you met with my reaction.

Some people do want to confront their abuser.

Are you inferring I was his abuser?

Please do answer my question but I also must point out we are getting off topic and should perhaps start a new thread if you want to continue this discussion past answering this question only.

Dear Nicoloette,

What you 'do not' need to do is to stop making and reading posts. These posts are very useful coping skills but not a replacement for therapy.

The 'only' reason I can even have an opinion like that is because I have had the privilege of having coed therapy so I keep an open mind now whereas I was once one sided. I was really against it at first but now that I had it, I see that it has given me a much broader understanding and to hear the other side first hand.

Its harsh and emotional and can only be done in a theraputic setting so I don't suggest trying it at home.

I sure hope that you check into the newer 'cognitive' therapy in your area. Because our country is always at war, it is becoming very popular amongst both combat and non-combat PTSD.

On an even better note, I am privileged to be able to have conversation with a sufferer from a different country. I love how you use the word 'mummy'. Thats really cute. Maybe we can find a common ground in these forums and one day meet on one of the PTSD trips.

By the way,

In Las Vegas there is a male show here called the "Thunder from Down Under" from Austraila. They are really popular in America in Entertainment. They have been in America around 7 years. I wonder if they were very popular in Austrailia before coming to America?

....Here we have two people experiencing the same traumatic event at the same time. There is no doubt that you have PTSD as the result of the traumatic event , and therefore no one can can conclusively conclude that he does not....

Nicolette,

If you don't respond and tell me that you forgive me for sharing my opinion I am renouncing my Jr. membership in this forum even though I have a lot of valuable information to share because I have participated in the therapy that anthony has posted all over this website.

Please promise me that you will talk to your therapist.

Pia

Pia, you are getting way off topic on this thread. You are projecting here and far from relevance. Your responses aren't even close to what is being discussed, which begins to lead me towards you're an Internet troll, or trolling. Not an accusation just yet, but a feeling. Maybe you're attempting to diversify what you have from limited therapy and apply that to others. You can't do that. You can share what you do in therapy, but that does not qualify you to apply that limited knowledge to another person or their situation, which I believe you are very limited in here.

Before commenting, you may need to go back, reread the entire thread, then maybe review what you are even talking about vs. the actual conversation going on here.
