from the generation that still gets freaked out hearing "queer". I
I was talking with my mom about this thread and used the word queer and she about smacked me  Because yep - she's from the era that you NEVER used that word.
I'm just glad you "kids" are continuing the fight for equality for all of us...
YES YES YES!!!!! I had many gay friends in the 80s because I was in the theater community and the things they went thru were just heartbreaking. I just didn't understand it. I mean seriously -- why do I care who you sleep with? As long as it's consenting adults it's none of my businesses!! So I'm always thrilled to see the next generation fighting to live as they want. Of course I can't keep it straight to save my life.... but luckily I get points for trying.... but I can remember I am ...abaf cis (which sounds kinda like eieio but there ya have it... Right @Swift ???
I KNEW this just seemed like the right place to put my first post... ?
Yea - it's pretty good bunch around here. And congrats on 31 years!

(Not sure how to separate out quotes yet, so I’ll just have to copy the whole thing.)

I’ve been to a couple of places online for Survivors, but this one seems more my style. I’m not sure about some of the letters, I’m just used to saying LGBT. I know there’s more. I may not always figure the initials out in time, but I’ve always been a strong supporter of all our family ??

Getting older is interesting. I saw an obviously Gay kid with all kinds of piercings working cash in a store I was visiting. I told him I got some piercings in 1980, and it’s great that the world has changed.

The kid was amazed that there were openly Gay (And openly pierced!) people back then. I had to smile at how much better things are for his generation.

When my husband and I went to Hawaii back then, people actually got out of the hot tub every time we got in!

And don’t worry, some of my best friends are Straight. ?

(I can help! If you're on a computer, just highlight the text, and a black box will appear near the words you've just highlighted. You can pick "quote" or even "reply" but they both do sort of the same thing. They just show up in other member's notifications differently.

On mobile, it works sort of the same way: just highlight some text. But I've noticed on my iPhone that if I try to type before I highlight and quote, the quote-box never comes up. On computer that's not a problem. :))

Lol!

I am young but I still know what you mean. When I was growing up, I was considered not okay and even dangerous to be around and in need of special schooling. Then about halfway through high school I was suddenly fine to my classmates? It was a weird experience. I'm happy you are happy about it, and happily married too!!!

I'm late to this party but heeeeeyyyy! transwoman here, AMAB, mtf, w.e.

@littleoc
Look into the SRY gene and variations of it called karyotypes (like klinefelter's syndrome). There might be dozens of possibilities. Caster Semenya comes to mind and has challenged the definitions of biological female and male in atheletics.

There is also expression of androgenic receptors and that is related to telomere length. You have things like reductase enzymes that effect hydrogenation/reduction of testosterone and therefore it's affinity for androgen receptors. If you block Alpha-reductase for example, the testosterone can not reduce to dihydrotestosterone. This creates an excess of circulating T, some of the extra T is converted by aromatase enzymes into estrogen.

Aside from steroidal chemicals, and hormones, you also have nonsteroidal chemicals like cannabinoids and opiates that are competitive agonists of androgenic receptors.

Happy Pride Month, all.

I took this photo during Pride celebrations in London, 2015.
Cheers to love, acceptance, and being valued for the unique human beings that each of us are.

Yep.

Basically lesbian tends to be for fem/woman identified people, into their/similar genders.
Gay just means not straight, and into people of same or similar genders, only... for anyone.
Queer tends to be an umbrella of Anyone not straight (and not just orientation, but gender identity, sexual identity, some include some kinks into it, as in different understanding of relationships from majority population.)

They have slightly different connotations, both in who you are, and who you are into / with.
But when it comes down to it, who feels most comfortable with which? Is a preference and personal reasons. :)

@bellbird Thanks for asking this question. Just last week, I asked my trauma T why in the acronym LGBTQIA was the L/G the same as Q (which I thought was queer). She did not correct me and say it was questioning....I think I'm cis- just there and not feeling the pull towards either sex......not feeling-that's it.....I feel like an oyster....asexual-no interest. Trauma killed that.

@littleoc Thanks for quote lesson....I got fussed at by moderator, and went to lesson....a really bad dissociated day and couldn't get it. That is easy. Now I feel smarter about quotes!
