Or better still, perhaps the professional would have steered him/her towards real help from society. Honestly, I deal with a ton of people in situations that would drive one to want to take their own lives due to the hopelessness of their situation. What they need - as do people in severe states of trauma/healing, generally are tangible supports. Make sure they have Maslow's needs covered and good therapy and generally they can pull it together.Maybe if he went he went to discuss his right to die with a "professional suicide consultant" in a private setting the gravity of that choice would've been more apparent to him.
A terminal disease is something altogether different. I do believe that people should be allowed to end suffering early.
