How not to discuss politics when the decisions are being made for us politically, and enforced by implicit threat of getting shot.
Have a think on it whilst you’re threadbanned for 7 days.

You could have asked that question in ContactUs, if you were serious about it. You’re not new. You know how to get in contact with staff to clarify direction you’re uncertain of.

Everyone else seems to be able to discuss local and international politics related to the pandemic just fine without challenging other posters to unrelated political argument.

Is it ok to start a political Corvid 19 thread? (Because some of us might enjoy it and everyone else could avoid it.)
Nope! :D This is exactly the place for that, and has been since the OP. We’d simply merge the threads together. Unrelated political discourse (from 17th centuries banking schemes onward, or back, for that matter) can be discussed elsewhere.

Any other questions relating to the OP Guidelines, the Moderator Note about politics in thread, or this post... please direct to ContactUs.

Another week at the clinic..

Dealing with cough-variant-asthma.. train travels will be fun when you are coughing. Will leave after a couple of hours and take sick leave for the rest of the week. A 47/45 Hrs 2 weeks in a row was a bit too much.
I don’t Do sick leave well.. have to put up with reality. It’s just how it is..

@blackemerald1 - I increasingly get the impression that we're incredibly lucky where we are. I watched Scomo give another press conference yesterday, and while I don't like him personally, it has to be said that the various State Premiers really have put politics aside and come together on this one.

We're getting informed about what changes are happening and why. And also what changes are coming and why they haven't been implemented yet. One message, very clear, no inconsistencies or panic.

Which I think is helping a lot with the relative calm here.

Obviously we'll get our turn at the panic when the numbers start going up. But for now, Australia seems to be in a waiting game.

I'm thinking the horse has bolted on testing. Sth Korea was testing 20,000 people per day. And that seemed to work. But the ad hoc, "If you've had contact with a known case..." definitely hasn't worked. It hasn't worked in the US, and likely it hasn't worked here either.

From today, all travelers into NZ, except those who arrive from the Pacific Islands, must isolate for 14 days.

The South Pacific islands are exempt from the NZ self-isolation requirement, as there are currently no confirmed cases there. The Pacific Islands also being protected with their own ban on any overseas travel there for two weeks.

Things are really kicking up a notch, and I'll be honest I'm starting to feel quite stressed.
I have food, bird food, and toiletries at home to keep me going if needed.
I have data files (not all 1.5T  ) on my external hard drive that I can work on from home if needed.

It's just the knowledge that things are most likely going to get worse before they get better. It's scary.

My wife went out again and stop and shop was better than the bjs. We got the produce. Apples, bananas, onions carrots potatoes. She said there was less stuff than usual but not like bjs. No crazy shopping or lines at either place. No real hoarding or obvious 'upset'. My other daughter and I took our walk on the beach which was actually crowded in spite of the cold. I feel a little better. Some normalcy. She brought "us" some flowers.
: )

Yay!

Supermarkets are going to be organising a seniors/disableds hour! Opening an hour early with stocked shelves once a week for those of us with disabilities and the elderly to shop without the panic, and with access to what we need:)

So glad that organisations are helping out the vulnerable. Look after each other:)

I had to take a trip to the shops earlier this morning. It was actually super quiet, no traffic, no crowds, the store actually had TP :o At the cash till there were 3 of us in line, none of us bought TP, the guy behind me kept a good 5' gap between us. The only thing out of place was the cashier wearing disposable gloves (totally reasonable, even without a pandemic money is disgusting).

It was quite pleasant. I know it won't last, but I'm still glad for the reprieve.

I'm getting a ton of calls about this so throwing it out there. If you are forced to work from home. If the kids are out of school (schooling or gaming or streaming or all of the above) and the usual internet stuff, you will likely need more internet speed. Even just for a while until everything is back to normal.

Meanwhile, the US looses their shit and shops not giving a shit about the elderly or disabled. I am always the last to be able to get food and water for even hurricane preparing because I cant get there early enough or fast enough before the hoards of "f*ck you" people that jump over service dogs to get the last loaf of bread in front of someone disabled get there.
