Just thought that I'd follow up from my last post since I'm no longer freaking out. After finding out about my landlord I called public health in my area. The hold time was super short which surprised me. The person was helpful. I explained that I had two conversations with him outside and for one I was definitely not 6 feet apart. I also explained I'd had a conversation in his house but we were more than six feet away and that I'd been just inside the doorway to grab their dog and walk it. The thing they focused on most was being inside the house, which makes sense. She mentioned I had touched the door handles at least and probably other things. Something else to think about as everyone tries to protect themselves

@Chris-duck I am so sorry. I can't imagine having to deliver that message. I hope you are trying to be gentle with yourself.

The China hating is beginning here in Australia. Mainstream news reporting on the sinister motives behind China now trying to be the good guy, sending countries countless medical supplies. Reported here, two Chinese owned developers had sent 80 tonne and 90 tonne respectively via private aircraft, of Australian based medical supplies, to China upon their initial Covid outbreak. Now Australia is short of supplies.

Nothing good is coming China's way after all this -- maybe bombs / maybe global economic sanctions / maybe huge concessions by the Chinese for all their misdeeds in this. There is no way China is reporting the real statistics from their country, considering 80% or more of it is super poverty based with no access to outsiders. Some bits and pieces leaking out of China from their own country people show much more devastation than China has reported to the world.

Australia is not expecting ours to peak until May / June by the statistical graphing for all this. Argh! I am hoping we don't start with this and end with war.

This is really helpful. It settled my nerves about my phone a bit and had good practical advice about smartphone cleaning. Should You Clean Your Phone to Combat Coronavirus? Definitely... Maybe.
good info
just a quick add- if you (like me) are not an owner of the latest greatest phone, you may find a good quality cover on the amazon for a lot less than it would have cost you back when you bought that phone new. I have always had waterproof covers for my phones and paid around 100 bucks for the newest and best, but I just replaced one for like 10 bucks. at that price, scrub away.

I consider my phone to be like a third hand and wipe it down whenever I get a shot at a cleaning wipe.

Cos work is breaking whatever soul I even have left.

I'm so sorry you have to go through this. My first job was cardiac step down and I would have patients who were discharged from CVICU to die. I wasn't trained in palliative care, and it takes it's toll. I worked there a year and went to emergency. I understand the horrible heartbreak and I wish you the best. I keep thinking of getting my license back and going to work, but I'm not mentally healthy enough to do that, and I wouldn't want to cause any harm. Kudos to you, and I will be more supportive of you in the future. I'm sorry I wasn't.

I don't know if this is for real.

My patients used to leave messages for me on the whiteboard. I had a patient who was just learning english, and she had a son. She left me a message - Thank you, you are a good boy. I took a picture of it because I was so touched that she had left me that message in my language. I'm thinking she called me a boy since she learned the word for her son. Anyway, I choose to believe it's real.

This is a fantastic tool for the US: Forecasting COVID-19 impact on hospital bed-days, ICU-days, ventilator days and deaths by US state in the next 4 months

It breaks it down by state, and even shows projections of when peak hospital use will happen, where the shortages will be the most severe. Some states, like NY, are pretty bleak. Others have very hopeful projections.

It also helps show that we will hit peak numbers mid-end of April in the US, and then start to see improvements May into June and July.

Sure, let's blame China for our combined governments' incompetence.

For the record, where I live we have a president that back until late February, early March, claimed this was all just a hoax, that he has everything under control, and that he's not taking any responsibility.

WHO warnings go as far back as early January.

there is no way China is reporting the real statistics from their country, considering 80% or more of it is super poverty based with no access to outsiders. Some bits and pieces leaking out of China from their own country people show much more devastation than China has reported to the world.

I have friends in China as well as Chinese living outside of China (in Italy of all places, but still have family in mainland China) whom I'm in regular contact with and they disagree with your statement. Considering that China did manage to get a grab on SARS back in 2003 as well as other countries seemingly also having a good handle on COVID-19 (Japan, for example), I have no reason to not believe their reports.

Yep -- China had told us it was coming, the CDC warned it was coming, WHO warned it was coming. And yet even after it started we were being told it was no big deal, it was just a bad flu, it only affected old people, we had it under control, there were plenty of tests available for anyone who wanted it and my favorite one .... The cdc says the death rate could be 3% but I have a hunch it's going to be under 1%

That's why its being called the China flu --- to deflect from debacle that is happening now because we weren't ready. If we can blame china then we don't have to blame ourselves for not doing a better job of preparing for it
