Has anyone grown dwarf fruit: favorite gardening plants?

I'm going to try to plant berries from seed. I don't know why, it would be much easier to buy plants but it is a challenge. I also live in zone 6. I moved here last year from zone 8, where I could grow all year round. If I threw seeds on the ground they would grow. Here is a different story. The soil is hard and compacted, and since it used to be alfalfa fields, it is pretty drained of nutrients. I'm working on improving it with compost and chicken poo. The chickens are hard at work every day providing the poo.

That is beautiful! I love the little family of owls and that jade is spectacular! You have a real talent!

Yesterday we planted 2 fir trees, the helper boy didn't show up so I didn't get much more done. My dog dug up 2 bare root trees because she saw it as sticks standing up in the yard. That's exactly what it looked like.

I've laid out 100 metres of 19 mm poly hose and pinned it down every two metres. What an ordeal and it has taken a large chunk of my day off to do. I just have to find a little bit more energy and go cut the end off, stick the plug thing in the end of it and job done. I know.... all of the technical jargon is difficult to understand.... but there you go, hose, plugs and pegs do me.

It's mighty humid and hot out there so taking a short break before I go back and finish it all off. The sun will help the poly hose to reelaax - been waiting for a hot day to do it, but there are limits to how hot it all needs to be.

On Tuesday the mulch bark man is coming with 4 cubic metres of mulch to lay over the hose. I will need at least double that amount of bark, and I have told him, but apparently he does maths differently. :/

Since I am paying for it, you'd expect him not to care. So maybe it's the spreading out of it all, which he is still getting paid to do - idk. Maybe it's cos I am a woman and it is my garden... I should stop trying to read minds because it does not make me well informed. 🤷‍♀️

And K should stop pulling out the pegs that pin down the hose that I have just laboured half a day to pin down.... or she will literally end up in the dog house for a day or so.

K has been beating me to the strawberries for the last week but this morning I got in first. God fresh strawberries straight off the vine...are divine.. lol So no wonder she likes them.

I've trimmed my grape vines so, though not entirely bare at her level, having left a few leaves, there are no grapes within her grasp, just in case she decides to kill herself again this summer by eating them. I do not want to clean up purple vomit from my floors again... are you listening there K?

Lmao… that’s much the same response as I got when ordering several cubic meters of cedar chips. Dump trucks came, deposited a couple 12 foot (3meter) tall mountains of cedar chips in my driveway. 3-4” depth of cedar chips resulted in my yard.

It was just like, yes. I have done the math. I am aware of the volume I am ordering. In technical speak? It’s a double f*ckload. Or double truck load, 3-4 square meters per truck. Roger roger. I’ve got a big damn yard. This is only going to cover the third of it I’m chipping. I’m actually shorting myself because budgets. I’d rather go 12” deep. But will have to wait a few months to order more. Ta!

I rather suspect they’ve just had a lot of non-contractors put in orders they wanted shovellled back into the trucks returned because… OMG. That’s a lot!

I finally got my geodesic dome greenhouse up and the cover on. Was ordering a door and my mother told me it was gone. Gone? I looked out back and yep, it was gone. We had dug a trench and put the base in the trench and put dirt on top, and also had super heavy duty ground anchors, 6 of them, in the ground. It was over 1/4 mile away against a neighbor's garage. She had a fit saying it broke her roof, but we took pictures and it was just shingle damage. I hired a guy to fix her shingles. The greenhouse was trashed. It has a warranty, but I didn't have a door on so it is void. We had just moved all the pots and several shelf units in there. Thank God we didn't put any plants in there. We had to take the whole 18 ft structure apart to get it off her garage. Almost all the steel posts were bent. It's going to the dump today.

The greenhouse guy said he will apply what I paid to an upgraded greenhouse. I'm really considering it after doing lots of research on how to anchor it. I'm going to sink the anchors into concrete. He also said having a door will prevent it from filling up like an umbrella. It's either that or a tuff shed and since the cost will be about the same I'd rather have a greenhouse.

I did that at my old house. It was a lot of work but no mowing and very little weeding. If I could I would cover all 2 1/2 acres with the stuff and cover it with wood chips but the wind is so strong they would blow away. Today I have to clean the coops, 4 of them and spread the litter on another bare garden area. It's below freezing here so I can't plant any more bulbs right now but hopefully it will thaw a bit.
