Help, Terrified Of Dental Treatment

One cavity was filled today and boy was I tense the whole time. I kept having to remind myself to relax my shoulders, but they never stayed relaxed long. It wasn't that bad though I guess. It was the larger of the two cavities. Hopefully it takes and won't need a root canal. Next week, I get the smaller one filled, which should be a lot easier than this one.

I'm still waiting for the Novocaine to wear out so I can eat.

Tomorrow I see the oral surgeon.

Great job, Brokenchild!

I sure hope you won't need a root canal, either! That's great that the largest cavity was taken care of, so you know the next one will be much easier to get through. You just did some terrific exposure therapy work!

Good luck, tomorrow!
(Make certain you have good pain meds and lots of ice for the wisdom teeth.)

Good for you, I know the whole relax thing, my shoulders and hands just tense up without me realising and then you think breathe, relax and it's wow, how did I get that tense.

My D always says, you will be numb for a while, I think of it as feeling like a mild stroke victim

I will have you in my thoughts. You can get through this. Write our names on a piece of paper and put it in your pocket so you know we are with you. I have done this and found that it has really helped knowing that the people who have cared enough to 'listen' online are with me in spirit.

Peace with you,
Rain

I love that idea, I will do it

It's also ok to ask a dentist if we can come in on their 'office day' and sit in their chair, listen to our favorite music...and just let ourself sit there until our body has the 'letdown' of the vigilance.

We can do it a few times in-between appointments, if need be, to keep innoculating our wounded psyches from 'remembering' the fear.

A good dentist shouldn't mind...perhaps a letter from our T. can help.

I fully believe that dentists are on the front line for identifying undiagnosed PTSD cases.

Every one of us who educats a dentist and shows them how to help us helps those who are still suffering, undiagnosed, have a greater chance of finding help.

...and decreasing stigma. It's ok to ask for this help, and it helps serve the cause of social justice for all of us.

Wish me luck. I'm going on Wednesday for my second implant work to start. The last one went well, not a lot of pain and the swelling wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

My D has told me this one may be worse as he has to go into the sinus area to start building up extra bone. H is away Tues night so I will have to put a relaxing evening plan in place to try and stay calm.

D will inject anaesthetic and then I have to wait for 30 mins for it to take effect. During this time I close my eyes, listen to music or an audiobook, concentrate on breathing and stopping myself from running, screaming from the building in blind terror.

Feel sick now.

Dear ((((Kath)))))

I'll be right there beside you.

Hoping it goes as well as can be hoped for, that it is non-triggering, and has minimal memory retrieval fallout...and of course, with as little pain as possible (& good drugs for the rest)...

OMG, just had letter from dentist explaining what will happen on Wednesday. The procedure is called a 'sinus lift'. Why the heck did I google it and start watching a procedure on you tube. Lasted about 20 seconds - ignorance in this case is bliss.

Oh (((((((((((Kath)))))))))))))) No!!!

Oh, Sweetheart!!! I'd google it, but I'm too scared to watch it (and I'm not even having it done).
You certainly have courage...

I wish I could bring over a huge chocolate cake and we just both stuff ourselves together and do something to make up for this!
I love you, Sweetheart!!!
My prayers for you on Wednesday are and will be strong, and my heart and thoughts are very much with you!!!

Heart aching for you!!!
