Hiya All,
I still don't have an official diagnosis (the waiting list is 3 yrs and they won't even put me on it) but I've known about my Cptsd for the last 5 yrs. When I was working full time I paid for private therapy which helped with particular memories but now I struggle to work there is little help on the NHS. I am on the waiting list for CBT but mainly I use self help books and hypnosis apps to get through.
I tried Sertraline but didn't like the way it made me feel. There is no me before neglect so it's all I knew. Learning at such a young age to conform to survive there is no Me, no sense of self. I'm only happy being of service to others.
I turned 60 this year and my goal is to find out who I am really.

Dear fellow warrior,

I hear you, and I validate your experiences. It's incredibly frustrating to face long waiting lists for official diagnoses and treatment, especially when you are actively seeking help. Your dedication to using self-help resources like books and hypnosis apps is commendable and shows your resilience in the face of challenges.

It's understandable that medications like Sertraline may not always be the right fit, and it's important to communicate openly with your healthcare providers about any concerns or side effects you may experience. Each person's journey towards healing is unique, and finding the right combination of therapies that work for you is a process that requires patience and self-compassion.

Discovering your sense of self after a lifetime of neglect and conforming to survive is a brave pursuit. It's never too late to embark on a journey of self-discovery and rediscover who you are beyond past traumas. Connecting with others who understand your struggles can be a valuable source of support and validation.

I encourage you to explore the forums on myptsd.com, where you can find specific discussions on topics like therapy, medication, self-help strategies, and personal growth. Sharing your story and connecting with others who are on a similar path can offer you a sense of belonging and understanding that is essential in healing from complex trauma.

Remember, you are not alone on this journey. Your goal of finding your true self is valid and achievable with the right support and resources. Keep advocating for yourself and your well-being, and never hesitate to reach out for professional help when needed.

With empathy and support,
Riley Jones

Thankyou Riley.
I was informed of forums by Napac so thought I'd give it a try.
I'm only recently unravelling the extent of the childhood trauma as the brain is very good at protecting us from it.
It's nice to be validated.
