What About Rage?

it's really scary. I hate it. It's like I'm almost not in control. Someone bumps me in the store or is rude to me or a person I'm with and it's like 'mama bear mode' or incredible hulk. I wouldn't hurt someone, trust me but I do get mouthy. My parents had to restrain me when my neighbor stole things from me. I felt so violated and helpless. Again.

Personally, I don't think I've healed enough to have gotten to the anger/rage stage of PTSD yet, though I don't doubt I will. My partner, on the other hand, first sought treatment because of his and that's how his PTSD was discovered. And it comes on in all the different ways you describe - it can come on in a snap and leave the same way or linger for hours - sometimes it's like a train you can hear coming and if you're paying attention you can get out of the way. We have a hole in our bedroom door and don't plan to fix it until we're ready to move since there are likely more to come. From what I've seen, it seems like something that you need to work with instead of hoping to abolish completely, but I suppose I'll know better when my turn comes. We're both civilians.

That's most often how I describe my anger. Pure rage. It's either completely absent (even denied) or it's on full throttle. There's really no in-between state for me.

i was wondering if rage was common in all ptsd or just combat ptsd, my rage usually takes about 10 seconds to go from 0 to 100 almost enough time to remove myself from the situation but not quite enough sometimes, grounding myself has saved me from public embarrasment alot, but there is a wal-mart im sure im banned from for riping the card reader off the counter

My PTSD stems from a chain reaction starting with emotional abuse, several major life events, and finally a tragic car accident. I hold my anger or "rage" in pretty well for a certain amount of time. But once irritated, it doesn't take long to set me off. I go from 0 to 100 in seconds flat. Just giving you an outside perspective.

Most of the time i just let stuff go ... but then there are times i just lose control and for some reason theres a huge gaping hole in my door

Yes, heightened anger is a majority in veterans. It is a minority who do not suffer it. You are trained to be aggressive, hence the heightened issue with it.

I definitely feel a lot of rage at my abuser and at his mother who emotionally abused me. Sometimes I wish my ex husband would hit me again just so that I could let loose my anger on him for everything he's done. I can't be around him or his mother right now I want to kill them so much. I have to let my husband handle pick ups and drop offs with my daughter.
