Military PTSD and Employment Issue

CaptB

New Here
First post here, I was employed by my former employer for 18 years, diagnosed with military related PTSD 4 years ago (9 depends and 3 combat tours) and had informed my employer with a copy of my VA diagnosis. It was a well known fact that I was a disabled veteran with PTSD.
Last year I had an incident related to my PTSD coping mechanism (dark humor) where my employer fired me.
My teams had a process to help me of they saw my behavior was getting out of hand but HR was not involved.
I am in the process of a federal lawsuit but I was wondering if Jeter l there’s any other vet who has a similar experience as mine.

I’m glad you reached out here, and I am looking forward to hearing from other combat vets to support you. So sorry for this situation that you’re in, but so thankful that there are ways to deal with it. I have dealt with legal issues many times. Depending on so many variables, it may or may not come out in your favor. All you can do is the best you can do, and the rest is out of your control. I wish you well going forward, and I do hope that your situation can be resolved in your favor. Thanks for reaching out.

Thank you for the response. It’s been a long journey and the workplace falls short of understanding.

We understand here. We haven’t all walked through the same trauma, but the trauma we have walked through has been severe. Full respect for you and everything you have done as a sacrifice for all of us. Thank you.
