Why Did You Choose That Username And/Or That Avatar (Or No Avatar At All)?

I chose d_survivor because I am a survivor of a horrible experience from the childhood. To me being a survivor is not giving up and keep fighting what ever comes to your way. I don't have picture or avater because I am lazy to download any pics. :) My real name is Dianna btw.

I choose my avatar because every time I see it, it puts a smile on my face.

I really, really love dogs ( and animals) but every time my dogs see a chiwawa, you can see them thinking really hard and getting confused.
"is it a cat?"
"Is it a rabbit?"
"is it a toy dog?"
No....it's chiwawa!

I always laugh my ass of when I see those little dogs. And I fully understand the confusion my dogs go trough approching a chiwawa. Even I get confused about them, when I dont wear my glasses.
And dogs with wigs are just hilarious!

My username is Sterre. In Dutch "Sterre" sounds and means someting like star ( or starry night). I have a lot of star tattoos on my body.

I like colorful abstract art, and my thinking style tends to be on the abstract side.

I chose "ich bin" which is "I am" in German because I took German classes college and found them to be the best experience of my college career. In addition, I have struggled with the feeling of having a shattered sense of self, and an affirmation of simply being here and being in my body has a lot of personal meaning for me.

I tried several names before I found one that wasn't taken. I wanted to use one I don't use anywhere else so I can't be traced back to me. But a recluse killed my mother, and now I'm a recluse. The fox is one of my totem animals and I'm always comforted by the sight.

But a recluse killed my mother
I'm sorry rec. If at anytime you or someone you love/know gets bit again. shock the bite with a tazzer it'll kill the poisin. the victim wont like the zap but the zap is more comfortable than the sickness from bite. Bite wont make ulcer just have a burn mark from tazzer. Its called put the reward where the illness will come.

my avi this time is multiple squares falling, start crowded at top then casscade down to two squares at bottom. its framed by a metal frame set at a 45 degree angle when hung. Off frame a short string hangs a single metal square in subspention. To show it fell out of painting. The painting symbelizes me in two ways, 1 how I fell apart; went from choas to a falling person, and 2 how I plan my memory will become, forget the past, and grow into 1 odd shaped, yet strong square.

Thanks, Alixipain - now that I actually live in recluse country, this is something I need to know. Now I just gotta pick up a tazzer!

Interesting thread.

For those of you who read science fiction but don't recognize the nickname I am using...

Jack Williamson was a well known sci fi author for decades (he died in 2006). In 1996 a collection of stories written to honor him and illustrate his influence on the genre were published as "The Williamson Effect". In it appears a story by Andre Norton, a pretty phenomenally prolific author herself. She introduces her story by referring to one Williamson wrote about 50 years previously involving the invention of intelligent robots programmed to not only do the boring work but also prevent humans from coming to harm. By the end of Williamson's story the robots literal interpretation has created a world in which humans can no longer do anything as, for example, even the sharpened pencils one might draw with could also "harm" the artist; any human who resists being babied is forcibly given psych treatment that changes their brain pathways so that they think the new way is perfect. Norton writes that this story haunted her for years and this is her reason for writing the tale she did when asked to contribute to the book. She also asks readers to remember that cultures differ, and the ways of one may not be the ways of all. In her story the robots move on the rez, meaning to institute the same sort of cradle to grave babying they already have in mainstream society, and get a surprising reception.

Williamson, pointing up his final scene of a man pretending he likes the new order rather than having his mind altered, called his cautionary tale "With Folded Hands". Norton named hers "No Folded Hands".

The hopeless situation may not be so. If it IS hopeless, there are still choices. Resistence may not be as most define it. Prevailing may be a matter of perception, of seeing things in a different way. And sometimes the sheer determination of NOT --not folding your hands into your lap and letting whatever it is just happen to you or someone you love or have some responsibility towards-- is both the only and the most significant thing standing between us and the avalanche.

Funny, Angela Marie, I always have loved your username-so pretty! I wondered if it were your real name only because I kind of hoped so. It seemed like a good idea for anyone to have named a baby 'Angela Marie'. If there is only one thing they gave you, at least it's extremely pretty. You're correct, too- the avatar does make me smile.

BTW on tazzer dont use on self, have someone else zap ya!! Very important for zapping self causes great pain! Your body siezes making you hold down button and hold against skin for a longer than normal amount of time. ITS NOT FUN!!!
