Tattoos Anyone?

I was recently admitted to hospital as I had done something incredibly stupid.

My nurse was a male and covered in tattoos and as I have a few we got talking. He sat with me for a while and we talked about tattoos and the fact they can be addictive. I was saying that I had already planned my next 3 tattoos. He said, did I know that they now consider getting a tattoo as self harming? I had never thought of it like that but it did make sense to me in away. You're letting a person you don't really know draw on your skin with a needle and it hurts.

Not that this will stop me getting my other tattoos but I was thinking about what others thought on this?

What do you think ?

Do you think that nurse was right?

Nope! Maybe some people. But, most people do it (including me) to commemorate something or someone. Mine is to honor my daughter. It's a heart with wings! It can be addictive, and I'd have another if they weren't so expensive!

It seems that tattoos are super popular. It does seem like people use them as something special or to be artistic.

I'm older so I personally wouldn't get a tattoo. In my day it wasn't popular. I don't think for me that I would want to put something on my body that years later I might not want. However, that's part of being older you realize how much you change your viewpoint over time.

Plus, I also have alot of health problems and am not sure I would want to put ink color on my skin. I don't even eat food coloring of any type.

I do know that when people have a lot of visible tattoos if they commit any type of crime it's a handy way for the police to identify them.

However, I think everyone has a right to express themselves in their own way. We all want to be an individual and people have different ways of showing that.

I have four tattoos and will eventually get more. I have my daughter's footprint on my right upper arm, a religious symbol on my back, Tazz on my left upper arm and Marvin Martian on my right calf.

I know that Tazz and Marvin are kinda cheesy but they both have very special meaning to me. Tazz was picked out by my nephew when he was about four and has his name and birthdate. He was autistic and had demyelination ( loss of the myelin sheath insulating the nerves). He passed away a few years ago. I chose Marvin as a reminder of my son who (at the time) I had not seen or spoken to in several years because Marvin was a favorite cartoon we used to watch together.

Personally I don't consider my tattoos to be a form of self mutilation in any way. I got them as reminders of people I dearly love and as a form of remembrance that my abuser could not take away. I love my tattoos and can't wait until I can afford more (I really want a back piece with my kids pictures but that is going to cost $$$ so I have to save my pennies first).

I suppose tho, that some people might use tattooing as a form of self harm so I suppose it really depends on what your motivations are.

I have tattoos with names of my kids and one of a baby I use to look after he was murdered in 2002 10 days before I had my first baby I now have 3 kids.

I don't do it to hurt myself I do it because I want to and like you it reminds me how much they mean to me.
I to can see that some matter find it a release but to me it's an expression of me and the people I love.

Yes I got four...and more to come...when I can afford and I have designed them... I have one finnished...sort of...and might be able to get it sone if I get the job. I love the body mod art style...
I have piercings to...I want to get scarfications and brandings. But that I have to wait with untill I eather is single or have convinced my boyfriend  But no hurry..better take it slow and think...don't wan't to regret it.

I never wanted one as I don't really think they would suit me. my eldest son is 21 and has wanted a Metallica one since he was 15. I said he couldn't until he was 18 and he waited until he was 21. He decided it was what he really wanted and had a half sleeve done with the Metallica Nin ga star and blue lightning. It was professionally designed and done and the guy did a good job of it. My son is not into any form of self harm but I can understand how it could be used that way. From my experience, most people who self harm do it for a destructive purpose not to celebrate or for artistic reasons. But they can most definitely become addictive.

Here is his tattoo...

I have a spider-web on my right elbow and a barcode on my neck with the
numbers 666054 below it. 0 being a reference to god (wholeness), five and four being the two numbers that closely represent my personality. The next one I'm probably gonna end up getting is a crying angel.
