you can build back up to it its really not that hard
and the endorphin rewards are out of this world

Geez, I hope so Marine, I really do, because I feel an ache of loss - both physiological and emotional, that is truly greater than I would ever have imagined. I want to feel good about myself, and somehow exercise and fitness were always one of the few ways of helping that to happen.

Maddog

We will get there one way or another maddog, little by little. I fully agree exercise and fitness were the one thing that turned things around for me when going got tough in past and made me feel more confident. However until get back there and shift weight with it, its frustrating. I think what we need to do now in order to get back there is to forget what we could do and focus on what we manage now and not compare to previous fitness as that can be soul distroying.

Before I haddta stop (due to any exercise seemingly perpetuation an injury) the medicine ball toss - OMG.

It was killer. I had a dirt road, and a dirt trail around the property, so invented a cross-country course, maybe 200 yards. A big loop, not level, just rugged rural dirt road. Could be a walking path, running trail, or huge lawn...

Instead of a soft medicine ball, I used a rock (cheap, won't roll away) Probably weighed 10 to 12 lbs.

The idea is, basically like a squat, grabbing the "ball" with both hands, dynamically standing, launching the ball. I got mine maybe 15 feet. Thud. Walk/jog ahead, squat to pick up ball - repeat. Squat, grab it and really launch it...!

Awesome low-impact cardio full range of motion workout/exercise. Plenty of ideas using med balls/medicine balls (both kinds) on youtube.

Get well soon Freak of nature, make sure your fully well and rehydrated before you tackle anything.
Thanks, and thanks for reminding me. I'm really down atm and can't wait to get back to working out; but you're right, it doesn't make sense to start before my stomach is fully healed. I'll only trigger a relapse *long sigh*

You guys, run an extra mile to make up for what I can't do right now, kay? ;)

Leg therapy is "all-encompassing" and a real demand on me. A fairly light 30 minutes in the pool is the best I could come up with.

Wanted to write some stuff about inexpensive work out shoes.

Been really appreciating the dense flat sole in Vans. Got away from the heel. This is mostly for working out, not running (but great for walking). Though, the idea that the high(er) heels in athletic shoes or hiking shoe/boots, does (or can) contribute to an overload on the front of the quad, is I believe a valid one.

Furthermore, that when doing standing lifts (or standing K-bell routines) it appears that with the very steep foam wedge (shoe heel) under our heels, we cannot posture properly. Having 'correct or proper form'. :) Proper form for all standing routines, is to be able to stand square, and (very firm and solid) drive the heel down. Then perform the lift sequence. The stance is right when one feels so 'locked in'.

You should (when properly warmed up) be able to take a lightly weighted bar, hold it straight arm overhead, sink into a low squat, then rise. This is called an overhead squat. [Google dan johns overhead squat] Try the O-head with both running shoe, and a shoe like a Vans (or barefoot) and the difference will amaze you.

Once you've switched to a shoe like Vans :geek: (the sole is a sleeper, really good) it feels too weird doing normal weight lifting/working out with running shoes, or soft soled shoes at all. Overloading the front of the quads is to be avoided. Normal sports will put enough pressure on this group. Please beware creating muscle imbalances with workouts. :D

How are you now Freakof nature any better?

I have managed tackle gym last couple days, did hour CV yesterday followed by some weights. Then today i did 40 mins CV but did circuit like session with treadmill sprints and then lunges, weights etc in between the sprints, then 10 mins of abs dvd when got home. Off for a run in bit but have feeling will be disaster feel unfit. Will report back.

One thing i can't master is press ups i have weak shoulders and just struggle with them, i seem to be rubbish at strength work and want to get better without injuring myself. Any tips?

Very interesting, thanks :) I've always preferred shoes with flat soles; it feels uncomfortable to me to walk with my heels up (I still can dance in high heels, though).

I'm getting better. Hunger and appetite are slowly returning. If tomorrow is as good as today, I'll start workout again the day after *so excited*

Press ups kill me, too. The only two tricks I know to make them a bit easier are 1. to spread the arms a bit farther apart and 2. put your hands against a window ledge instead of on the floor so your have to move less weight. Also it's helpful to do lots of planks (like push ups but you lean on your elbows and hold position), and to do the climber (like push ups, arms slightly bent, pull one knee to your chest and stretch out again), so your torso grows stronger.

I use do alot planks but been slack lately and struggle with them now need start building them Back up. 3.5 mile run tonight hard work don't seem be getting anywhere fast with running long for day when feel Strong running again not sure will get back there.
I really need sort eating and weight as that not helping.
