After some experiences with medications (that left much to be desired) I've been thinking...

Doesn't it seem like the main problem with PTSD has something to do with cortisol or adrenaline? When we talk about being flooded isn't it these chemicals we are talking about? Doesn't it seem like the best medication would be something that targets this area of the brain and suppresses the output? (The adrenal system or what have you and the resulting adrenalin and cortisol)

I guess there are some medications that have a result on these systems, but they were initially developed for high blood pressure etc.
Are there any medications in the works that concentrate solely on suppressing these chemicals specifically in PTSD sufferers?

I feel like while memories may never be dealt with, if the body didn't become flooded with chemicals, it would be of great help.

I have seen websites talk about using Catapres for PTSD symptoms. It blocks some of the effect of adrenaline on the brain. It might be worth talking to your doctor about it?

I don't know about medications like this, but anything that suppresses production would surely put you completely out of balance at those times when you weren't overproducing the chemicals? (I have too little adrenaline except when stressed, and too little is no fun at all.)

Hell, yea I agree totally, which is one reason I don't take meds. In fact I am going to the docs to get my cortisol levels checked. I think as well they should be looking into this. I am fed up with people telling me

"You really aren't normal are you?"

"You are just a little bit crazy"

And expecting me to pump my body full of shit just to make them feel comfortable. So I keep my mouth shut and hang around with tolerant people who accept me for the person I am.
