Let The Games Begin - London 2012 Olympics

Over the games already... :coffee:

I was sooo over the Games before they began. I was so sick of hearing about the Olympics, I was sick of seeing that bloody torch on every news program for the last few months . . . But .... I'm soo into it now!!

I thought I'd be bored with TV coverage continuously on BBC channels from 6am until 11pm, but I'm loving it :D!!

I was very cynical that we would completely cock it all up, that it would be badly organised and all a bit of a shambles, but so far, it has been fantastic. I'm very impressed.

I only have 2 complaints. Firstly Paul McCartney in the opening ceremony. Unfortunately I think he might appear at the closing ceremony too :(. And secondly, that there are empty seats in the arenas. All those corporate ticket holders not using their tickets should be named and shamed, and have all their tickets sold on (cheaply) to people who do want to watch the Games.

Team GB are doing amazingly well. I'm completely in awe of all these amazing athletes. All the funding from the National Lottery and other sources is definitely paying off.

Anyway, I'm back to the velodrome . . it's so exciting :tup:

I'm with you, cherryblossom, I've been sucked into the nonstop coverage here in the States. My friend's kid earned team gold (amazing!). The US coverage is short on other nations for gymnastics, but for diving and swimming everyone is getting good coverage.

I love the little stories that the press covers, about the Olympians and their families. The athletes have such support from their families, who, I'm sure make so many life changes, and sacrifices to support their loved ones.

Your friend must be so, so proud of their child :tup:

I'm getting quite excited for the start of the athletics tomorrow.

That had a graph this morning showing countries total gold medals... and Michael Phelps was his own country, with around 16 Gold medals or something ridiculous like that... ranked about 18th in countries... as in individual. How insane is that!!!!
