Exactly! I was so petrified of death until I went to Mexico to study. I came back with so much added to my soul and perspective.

Hot wax! That sounds great. I've always wanted to play around with Batiking (I think that's done with wax, right?). Great new word, too: encaustic. Love it!:happy:

Encaustic just means 'to burn with wax.' I love it too and it's great fun! (Except when you get it on your clothes, it just doesn't come off)!

You are absolutely right, Batik is wax on fabric - also lots of fun!

My Son did a project on Mexico for school once and we learned about the Day of the dead - I was so impressed. It remembers those who have died while laughing at the face of death - so much better than Halloween in my opinion.

Since you're an artist and since you like the Day of the Dead, are you familiar with the engravings of José Guadalupe Posada? Most of the Day of the Dead folk artists and Mexican muralists have borrowed so much from his skeleton characters. If you're not familiar with him, you might get a kick out of his work.

Dead folk artists and Mexican muralists

Put it in the freezer, it will crack off. It should get it all off, it may just take time.

I think that is awesome that you are doing this! I've done that a couple times but I haven't manage to stay more then a couple of classes. The group you are in sounds wonderful. I would love to do that in the states. Enjoy!

I put some tissues over it and ironed it off as it was more like a stain than a 'blob' but I will try that if it gets 'blobby.'

First painting completed!

Iris's in watercolour. I was thinking about putting a soft wash in the background but I ran out of time. I'm quite pleased with it but it was a difficult subject for one so out of practice.

The people are lovely and I'm starting to settle in and get to know people. The visiting tutor is lovely and I have such a laugh with an old lady who is from London and paints saucy pictures; like the old sea side postcards - she makes me laugh so much and she is such a sweetie.

Can't wait for next week. Seeing KP and then art class - exciting!

Get an album then the ones with the plastic film to protect them.

Dont for get to date them too so you can look back at them in order and see your progress.
