From your post, there is a lot of behavior that is pretty common to a person with PTSD withdrawing and isolating, but this statement stood out.

Things were great until out of the blue I get an email telling me he'd reconnected with someone from his past and although it was a difficult decision he had to wish me the best.

If he is in another relationship, then do what is best for you and give yourself the opportunity for the type of relationship that you deserve.

Thank you. He was not in another relationship. It was just the reason he gave at the time. He has indirectly acknowledged this.

If I may give advice on how to hang in there, I'd say try to have faith in God- leave the worry to Him, have a good support system of friends. That's helping me now.
