Gone Girl

Wow, holy cr*p, I didn't expect that.

This is a difficult book to write about without giving the plot away. Good stuff though.

I'm well into Part 2 now and poor H is receiving grunts from me in answer to questions, followed by me saying 'what love' and him replying 'never mind, go back to your book'.

I understand, I am having to read about each book and decide which one I really want to read since I can't get them all. I am hoping to go back and read the ones from previous months though. The diet website I joined, if you win the competitions, you get entered into a drawing for a $30 Amazon gift card...maybe I can use my weight loss to fund my reading.

I have finished it. It was an interesting story but it left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I know it is fiction but it is so plausible.

I've immediately started reading a light hearted chick lit to lighten my mood.

What left a bad taste in your mouth KP? Don't worry about giving a story away... IMO that is over-rated and should be discussed.

KP I already am dreading the whodunnit scenario playing out(from the synopsis that's a give away I think) mostly because I'm already falling in love with some of the characters. I hate it when that happens :banghead:

WARNING PLOT GIVE AWAY

OK, Part 1 is Boy meets Girl. The story is told from his perspective with parts of her diary. Her diary leading up to the 'event', his starting the day of the 'event'.

She disappears, is she dead, but no body. The scene is staged, is it the husband? He follows a treasure hunt of clues from his missing wife. All of the evidence points to the husband having killed her but it is all circumstantial. He knows he is being framed and is being framed by his missing wife.

Part 2 is Girl meets Boy. This is her account of how and why she framed her husband. She squirrelled cash away over 1 year, bought a used car and kept it hidden.

She had framed others in the past, a friend at school and an ex boyfriend. The detail and lengths she goes to are scary because they could be possible. She controls people like a puppet master.

She loses her cash and turns to the ex boyfriend for help, telling him wrongly that her H beat and abused her. The boyfriend takes her to his mansion (yeah, I know, we all have friends with mansions) and she realises he will keep her there. She again plans. She ties herself up daily to make marks on her wrists and ankles, she abuses herself with a wine bottle so that she can claim rape - totally sick. She then kills the boyfriend and goes back to the husband.

Early on she said she couldn't get pregnant so they went for fertility treatment although they went no further than freezing husbands sperm. Husband thought the sperm to be destroyed but once she had returned from the 'dead' she used the sperm to become pregnant.

The story ends with she and husband trying to control one another and a baby on the way.

In a way it is a clever scenario as there is no happy ending, just a very sick stalemate.

I wish you'd hurry up and receive yours. I'm reading something nice and fluffy now, that will have a happy ever after.

Once again, the book club has taken me away from what I'd usually read.

Ew, now I'm not sure I even want to read the rest. I really liked her spirit in the first few diary entries. Though I do like the woman turning out to be the mastermind for once. It's typically the man who's abusive in fiction, nice to see people are branching out.

Also waiting for my Paperwhite to buy the Kindle edition. So much cheaper... Can't wait to read this one and so hope that things (money and Kindle) will work out soon.
