I'm glad you have a diagnosis and a therapist. Group therapy often helps because, for me, part of my problem is I get isolated and convinced no one cares about me.

Can you let people in your life know that if they don't support you properly you will have a harder time recovering? You really need support.

Welcome to the forum. I ache for you because of what you have had to endure. I am so glad you have sought help through therapy, and I think the forum will be a real help to you as well.

I pushed people out of my life that did/would not just let me be. I used to be a very social person, usally the one to organized birthday lunch, coffee/dessart at my house or out for a couple of glasses of wine and a giggle, or out to the theater. They wanted me to continue to be the strong one, the one they went to when they needed a shouler etc. I am not that person. Leaving my house is a struggle. Not that I don't care about other people struggles, just that some of it is so trival and over whelming for me right now. I have no family other than my 3 daughters ( 29, 27, 15) They know that I was assulted but not the rape part. And I can't be a burden to my children. Still try ing to be a good mother/grand-mother.

I went to a grief ritual in February facilitated by a West African woman named Sobonfu Some. She said that in her culture often as people age they consciously switch roles. She is now mother to her mother and her mother is her daughter. Things just work out that way sometimes. It is supported and appreciated in her culture.

I feel like a burden to people too. It's hard.

Dear rightkind,

I remember learning as a child, that sometimes we serve by allowing others to serve us. I, myself, have had to be served many times. My ptsd incapacitated me for some time. My husband stood by me and cared for me for many years before I was diagnosed and got help.

I am much better now, but the time of being served allows me to better serve others. Grieve. Allow other to tend to your wounds. It will help them to be better people. It will help them find their strength.

Thank you for your thoughts. My daughters and I are very close ( I've been on my own since I was pregnant with my youngest, my husband wanted me to abort her) My older daughters are very caring and good to me, however I hold back because they are still my children.
