Dead Link Removed

A rookie paramedic pulls a young woman alive from her totaled car, a first rescue that begins a lifelong tangle of love and wreckage. Sheila Arsenault is a gorgeous enigma--streetwise and tough-talking, with haunted eyes, fierce desires, and a never-look-back determination. Peter Webster, as straight an arrow as they come, falls for her instantly and entirely. Soon Sheila and Peter are embroiled in an intense love affair, married, and parents to a baby daughter. Like the crash that brought them together, it all happened so fast.

Can you ever really save another person? Eighteen years later, Sheila is long gone and Peter is raising their daughter, Rowan, alone. But Rowan is veering dangerously off track, and for the first time in their ordered existence together, Webster fears for her future. His work shows him daily every danger the world contains, how wrong everything can go in a second. All the love a father can give a daughter is suddenly not enough.

I just got a copy from the library and have started reading it. I don't know how far I'll get, since the first two chapters gave me a headache. The book seems good; the headache is probably because I haven't yet processed a lot of my paramedic traumas.

But I'm determined to try to confront it, learn how to be social, and enjoy reading again. :)

I did wonder how this book would affect medics. Please take it slow and allow yourself time out.

I began reading this yesterday morning and I've just finished it. I absolutely loved it. Having been in a crash, I was unsure, but I was able to read it as a story and nothing to do with what I experienced.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the way in which it was written. I could see why Sheila tried to make a go of life with Webster. He was safe and protective, just what I like in a man .

It's a good read so far. The author, or a friend, must have some EMS experience to be able to explain so much of the everyday mundane details of the job.

I'm 1/3 of the way through. It's slow going for me with some memories triggered, but not overwhelming.

I'm so glad to be working my way back to being a bookworm. I've only done the one book club before and I avoided this part of the forum until now.

Welcome back to reading.

I agree, it seems from someone with no medical background very well researched. I did find the 7 (?) Ps before a air ambulance evac disturbing.

I also thought the 'burnout' descriptions realistic, especially laughing at inopportune moments. I can relate to the laughter at serious moments. At my Mother in laws creamation, I almost had to stuff a hankerchief in my mouth to stop the giggles when the curtain went around the coffin.

I finished it last night. She thanks the person who gave her the EMT insight data. Not a bad book.

I think I like Kindle. I only got the small one, but it sure does serve a purpose. Light weight with dozen of books in it. LOL. My question is, how do you archive books or loan them out? When the kindle is full, do you just delete all your books or have to get a new one?

Please ask these questions on the ebook reader thread otherwise this thread will go off topic.

I'm finding it a bit slow and dull so far. Not quite as entertaining as some of Shreve's other novels
How are you all finding it so far?
