The Dukan Diet

Though I am not following the Dukan diet, I am following a life change. It involves eating more protein. Definitely more then I currently get. I say currently, because I am still not up to the amount I should be. I still have a sweet tooth but I have been very good to limiting it to weekend mornings(and not making up for the weeks loss ). I wish the sweet tooth would subside. I have been eating greek yogurt and that seems to help stop the craving.

I have to get myself to eat the meat(chicken) part of protein. Still working on that. Going to have stir fry tonight with quinoa. That's a good source of protein too, for anyone needing to fill up with protein. I think it is all protein.

Piratelady, glad to hear you are seeing a loss. I haven't gotten on the scale yet, but I think my stomach is less inflated. That's a start.

I wish the sweet tooth would subside.
Britt,
When your body gets all the nutrition it needs then cravings subside enormously. That includes eating very regularly and all food groups and keeping your insulin levels constant. Insulin spikes create inflammation in the body too which will aggregate many of your immune conditions.

Typical mistakes people make are trying to eat nothing for as long as possible; then eating high glycemic level foods and not enough protein in the day or vegetables.

Over years that also translates to lower muscle percentages in the body which drops metabolism.

Well done for heading in the right direction!

then eating high glycemic level foods and not enough protein in the day or vegetables.

The nutritionist did give me a paper that lists the glycemic levels in various fruits and veggies. I'm still working on increasing the food I eat and eating more frequently. This is definitely difficult. Still I'm trying and she said to take any step in the right direction, no matter how small it seems, as a positive.

Thank you for your support! It is definitely much needed.

I think high glycemic level foods are not the devil Britt! Nothing wrong with them when we are well nourished already and eating all the nutrients our bodies need and deserve. But I know for me I had hangups about all sorts of foods including protein. And crazily things like chocolate seemed safer at times as they weren't filling and I almost think I got enjoyment from denying my body healthy nutrition.

Now I eat all the protein I need and I eat bread and rice etc in the right quantities and plenty of vegetables and I have a little wine or a pudding of some type daily. But I have built trust between my body and I as I will not deprive it of nutrition.

And step in the right direction is amazing and you deserve big credit! :)

People have a lot of misconceptions about eating and losing weight. Eating less is scientifically factual to cause your metabolism to slow down as your body stores more fat and removes more of the good proteins from your body as a result. Eat more, eat well, and keep fruits with sugar out of your diet, as many fruits are high in natural sugar and you will put on weight eating them UNLESS you are burning thousands of calories daily because your job is exercise based. Then you want the sugar fruits, such as pineapple, bananas, et cetera.

The more you eat of salads, vegetables and meats (excluding lamb), you force your metabolism to work. Add exercise and you force it to speed-up, thus everything you eat is metabolised more efficiently.

You cannot lose weight from eating things out of prepared packaged goods. It must be raw foods.

Britt,
Just a question. I really don't know the answer to it at all. Is it helpful to you to be around others on weight loss programmes and speaking about loosing weight?

I guess it depends how strong your eating disorder thinking is and what it looks like. It may be that being on here gives you support and that you are able to put the rest aside at this point in your recovery and focus just on the health aspect of what you are doing. Just something to consider.

Yes, talking to people on here about their diets helps. Joining a separate weight loss program wouldn't help. I prefer the nutritionist and talking to here.

I think, other than this thread, there is another that talks about eating disorders. Possibly one about losing weight in chit chat. If anyone knows those links that would be great.

So, I been on the Dukan diet for 4 days now. Lost a half inch in areas. I have a ton of energy and can't seem to sit still for long. Working on tread mill and waiting for my pilates station to come. Also a good work out is using towels as in the workout Madonna uses. OMG, it is a killer though. I got muscles I didn't realize I had. Hardest part has been detoxing from the soda. Headaches have been nasty. Been drinking alot of water. I joined the site and have the book.

Great part is my dogs are loving this since we are spending two hours outside each day moving around. You all inspired me. And Yes, I am doing this in the middle of trying to move. Which is why I did it. I needed to get energy up to do all the packing and cleaning when it comes down to it. One bonus is I am not smoking as much either. Only smoked a half pack today. After I move it will be quit time.
