I Have Found The Cure For Ptsd

So, 2 days ago I decompensated and had to go to Emergency (ER). I was seen by a nurse, who asked for a list of my medications. Several hours went by and he didn't bring me any. I know you usually don't get medications in the emergency room, but I was told there were no mental health beds until the next day, so I would be spending a day and a half in the ER holding room.

I asked him for my meds - I am diabetic, have chronic pain, just ruptured my hamstring 2 weeks ago for the 2nd time, have PTSD etc. He said the doctor wasn't willing to give me any pain meds, and the rest could wait. I was pretty shocked. The nurse told me some of my PTSD meds would help with the withdrawal. So the doctor found it necessary to withhold chronic pain meds on a person who was decompensated with PTSD, and allow that person to go through withdrawal. I said, "Wow, I bet my friends would be interested in hearing about that!" They confiscated my phone and wouldn't allow me any phone calls after that.

After a while, another nurse came. She told me to just shake it off. I'm assuming she meant the PTSD. She told me everyone has stress, but if I got through nursing school and worked as a nurse, then I needed pull myself together and get out of here (the ER). She told me that all of the nurses there were stressed too, over 100 were being laid off, and I didn't see them in here did I? I reminded her I had PTSD, and she said its just stress. When the social worker came in, I told her what the nurse said, she responded, "Why would she say that?" I told her that she would have to ask the nurse.

So, my friends, the cure for PTSD is to give no meds, and shake it off! She didn't make it clear if you had to go to nursing school, or if any education would do.

How awful. I hope you'll file a complaint against that nurse, the facility, and the emergency room doctor. Also, iif you are in the states, contact the office of human rights.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I always tell every medial person about me PTSD. It's still shocking when they tell me they're never had a PTSD patient before.

It's the stigma and fear of invalidation of ignorant remarks and behavior just like that which kills people, Hence, why always submitting a complaint to their employer and their licensing agency is so important. When enough complaints are finally received by the boards, they will begin educating professionals about the disease.

Hang in there. Keep searching for help until you get what you need.

Sounds like those professionals need to retire.

That's just brilliant!! I have been through nursing school to, so now all I need to do is throw away the pills and go shake a little.

If only I had known it was that simple.

Obviously a conspiracy by the drug companies to want us keep taking their meds...

I hope you are going to write this up as a bit of academic research for the nursing press?

Sorry, but you have so much humor and I like it! *still giggling*

BUT in real life it's NOT funny. As others have said that attitude can kill people who are weaker than you are. File a complaint! Sorry you had to go to the ER. I hope you're feeling better now!
Oh my goodness!!!!!

The ignorance knows no end.

This woman is a genius. Someone should give her a little shake to see if there is anything between her ears. Rattle rattle... No, nothing...

Hope you are feeling better Monster.
:D:hilarious: "rattle rattle" Oh.. No, nothing.. Oh.. :hilarious:

@monster1977 You are not, OMG! I am so sorry! She is not a nurse! She should be striped of all certification. Please report her. Or PC her info and I will.

Yes Obama Care has cured PTSD! I see a job opening very soon. Kathleen Sebilius needs to know, the AMA needs to know. I don't mess around with peons. The hospital is responsible for her actions!

She made a huge error, nurses are not allowed to diagnose. We know that, obviously she thinks she is untouchable. She will be flipping burgers if she is really lucky. Mc Donald's won't take her either.

Yes we need humor but none of this is acceptable! Whitney
