Cultural Myth Busting!

As this has become quite the international forum, I thought it might be fun to share a laugh about all the prejudices there are about everyone's cultures and talk about what is and what isn't true. I myself am very interested in cultures all over the world and love to expand my knowledge about them. Busting myths about where you're from can be funny and quite educational, too!

I'll start:
I am from Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and I really don't smoke weed. Neither do any of my friends. I think all of the tourists smoke more of it during their stay than the average Dutch person does in 10 years! :laugh:

N.B.: I'm opening this thread only to chat and to share a few laughs as well as some fun facts, but it is of course in no way intended as a platform for racism or any other form of disrespect.

I'm in the UK and I chat about the weather with someone at least twice a week. Often while forming a queue and apologising.

I am from Canada, and I don't say "oot and aboot" for "out" and "about". But eh? is in my vocab :D

My family is Jamaican...we dont smoke weed and no one in my family is rasta. My family, like the majority of Jamaicans are conservative, protestant, and carry on with British customs. That seems to genuinely surprise people, cause that's not what you see on tv and movies!!! LoL

I'm in the US. I'm grew up in California, and I'm not greedy or into celebrities. I really could care less what the "stars" are up to! Most people in California really don't care much either. But I did surf as a kid, and I still love the beach!

I am in the US and live in Southern California. I love being an hour away from the mountains and the beach and them parks. I love the weather here.

I live in a very mixed culture with all races here. The only thing I do not like is the amount of door to door salesmen.

I'm in the US, and Tennessee specifically. We do wear shoes and not all of us live in trailers. I myself am not addicted to country music and there is actually a dedicated punk/goth/rock scene here. Most native Nashvillians don't wear cowboy hats or boots, though we do tend to say y'all alot. :roflmao:

I'm a Brit and I often find people here over-friendly!

I live in London, but I don't see Tower Bridge or Big Ben out of every window. Nor do I experience a lot of fog, or arch-villains. It doesn't even rain that much.

I am from Chicago. I didn't find out early how to open doors with just a smile. Idiot boys in college would make moves immediately having learned from song lyrics about city girls. (They actually quoted that song!)

I don't think anyone here assumes I am from the mob since I am female.

I am Irish American and my family does not - unfortunately - bust the stereotype re: alcoholism. But one of the good ones is true - we all write well and can tell good stories! And we're awfully good looking. (Kidding.) : )
