After A Flashback

I can't believe I'm still a little fried. Last night I was up and online and all of a sudden the exhaustion hit me hard. By the time I got into bed I was so tired I think I remember laying my head on my pillow. I woke up early in the morning and when I opened my eyes I realized I'd even fallen asleep without reaching over and turning the lights off. So I did and went back to sleep.

I'm feeling more like myself today. I thought I was basically "normal". Until I went into the kitchen to grab cheese from the refrigerator. I ended up grabbing the wrong thing. I didn't realize it until I turned around closed the refrigerator door and saw what I was holding.

I'm still a little tired but I'm more awake than I was yesterday. But I decided to take it easy and just read today. If I can stay awake.

I think it's great that those of you who are able can pull yourself up with your tools and still go out into the world and function after a flashback. I'm realizing I really can't. And then to try to communicate how we're feeling and what we're thinking to our supporters is hard. I'm still trying to make sense of it too.

Depends on the intensity of the therapy work, trigger (is it old or new) flashback and then there is the consideration of what is truly 'functioning'. Often, when I thought I was functioning, I was informed (by friends )that during the crisis I was not appearing to do so.
So I keep judgements on the spectrum reserved for introspection when it is absolutely necessary. The grounding techniques are essential no matter how intense.

I guess my points are as follows on what I have learned to do:
*be gentle to myself -(stop my inner critic)
*laugh a little- when I notice I goofed (so what if I put my tennis shoes in the frig)
*
value my progress (getting better is not a destination but a journey)
*enjoy the moment (trusting myself that I do not have to have it all figured out NOW)
*do something fun (life is to live fully)
*believe (that I have been through flashbacks and can do it again)
there are more but this is a solid start.

Enjoy your book and be proud of yourself for your courageous journey to heal.
