I Have Not Left The House

I have not left my house in a week. I have not gotten dressed... I have called out of work. Today my husband left a message telling work I am having a crisis and will let them know ...we are calling treatment centers today. I am so scared. I have completely lost it..haven't slept in days, flashbacks, ....I think I have completely gone thru the looking glass.

Getting help is always brave. I recently went through a really rough spell where I knew I couldn't keep going the way I was. I went to the hospital (psych. ER) and it was the best move I could have made. I went to a partial hospitalization program and though it definitely wasn't a cure-all (I don't think anything is and wasn't expecting it to be), it did build up my skills and help me get stronger. Good luck in figuring out the path that's right for you.

it is an out patient program
Well, that will certainly get you out of the house. That is a huge step. It is proactive in your approach, that is huge too. Treatment is not generally a 'completely through the looking glass' action so that is incredibly positive too! Look at you go! And with the support of your husband to boot! Nice recovery!

My outpatient experience was scary at first- like the first two days. And I wondered why on earth I thought it could help. But it really did help me and I am glad that I stuck with it. I stayed in the program for a bit over 6 weeks which is a little longer than they usually say, but it was worth it. I had to make a few things work for me because they had very rigid routines, but I found one or two staff that I could talk to and worked through things. Mostly my outpatient program was about skill building. I can't say I am very good at remembering the skills most of the time, but I have them and can use them when I remember to. I just want you to know that all new things are scary and if you are scared, that's normal. If you feel like fleeing the first day or two, give it at least 3 days to see if you think it might be helpful. If it doesn't seem helpful after that, then stop going and find another option. Sometimes even different outpatient programs can be more helpful than others (or so I have heard). Very proud that you are seeking help and keep us posted on it's going for you.
