Lost An Axel, Didn't Freak Out!

So I'm on this epic road trip across the United States with my 4 year old and 7 year old children. We are camping on a trailer in a tent. The trailer lost the axel. As in... it fell off. When I got it into a parking space there was one bolt left on the springs holding the axel to the trailer. I shredded the tire.

This was quite alarming. It turned into a two day odyssey of arguing with AAA (a towing service) to get the trailer taken from place to place because folks wouldn't fix it. Exciting!

It's a good thing we planned to be in the Chicagoland area for 9 days because it took 2 days to find a place that could fix it and it will take 7 days to fix. We are in a hotel.

I'm really proud of myself for not freaking out. It was a lot to take in at once and juggle. My kids have been really bored.

And our first night in the hotel I got violently ill. This is just super festive. Oh yes.

But I'm being nice to the kids and getting everything done that has to be done.

I'm proud of myself.

I am really proud of you too! You handled the situation very well and you are being brave and couragous for going on this trip. Your kids are so lucky to have you as a mom being able to deal and handle and manage such a difficult and trying situation all by yourself. I haveAAA as well and I they have helped me out too.

@rightkindofme. I second scout 86. The physical reaction was to be expected, but you got it all sorted. You are brave and your kids will love to talk about this down the road, I mean years from now of the great adventure, and their invincible mom. Hope it did not put you in any $ constraints with the hotel. Road trips bring out the worst and best, and then the best of best.

Oh my goodness! We are meeting the nicest people. It is literally shocking to me. People have been asking to help us over and over and over. Illinois is blowing my mind.

Some sweet old men said they could tow my trailer if AAA wouldn't cooperate. When I called them to check in and let them know that everything was sorted they started sending me texts of fun things to do with kids.

Good golly I like this area.

And thanks everyone. :D
