Curios about distraction. Zika. Been around for quiet a while only two cases in the US. Now headline news. Is it every election cycle we are informed of a new threat. Ebola. Not like Flint or those that live there permanent lead poising of everyone, that took a year to break headlines.

While I don't disagree with your assessment of the coverage on the Zika virus, there are been more than two cases in the U.S. There have been at least three cases in the county that I live in, about 12 or so in my state. Our governor has declared a "health emergency" in five specific counties and that does seem a bit extreme.

I'd see that unrelated honestly, or reported as current within possibility.

That bit is more about where you look. Say Venezuelan channels were covering Zika for quuite a while. True, you could go the route of 'which country's press works hand in hand with whose', but if that trace of thought isn't something that helps your mental health or you need be doing with your time, there's more productive approaches to this.

Not every bad timing of things in the world means a conspiracy.

@Cashew, I don't think I view it so much as 'conspiracy', as I simply feel we are not being told the truth about a lot of things, until after the fact. I am not a conspiracy theorist. my son is and drives me nuts with the things he finds on the internet... finally had to tell him to stop telling me that stuff...So much trust has been broken here in the States. But I do believe that the American public has become apathetic to most things and just allowed the government to 'take care of us'. That part I own as an American. And now that things have gone to hell in a handbasket, we are waking up and going 'ohhh my goodness', what has been happening to our country. Not just blaming the government, but the public at large.
I have been poor my entire life, so it's not like I don't know what it feels like to be looking up from the bottom of the barrel. I guess we are waking up. And realizing we had input and chose not to. The government will take care of it. Speaking for myself here, by the way. We have become non trusting about the real issues... so much mumble, double talk and avoidance, even the less educated are catching on we are not being told the truth about many things.... am I making any sense??? Should not be doing this before my first cup of coffee !!:inpain:

Zika is not a conspiracy. Concern is anti immigrant attitudes. Latin America, Central America, also the Caribbean. Interesting to see what measures are applied to travel and health care. Texas case was interesting as it was passed through semen. The US cared about Ebola when cases came here, before? Proximity to Zika is a sea change. How will that be dealt with during an election cycle in the US?

Zika is not a conspiracy.

Nah (apologies, haven't expressed myself on how I mean with that tidbit really well) - what I meant is I think the timing isn't uncanny as in manufactured distraction uncanny, but that viruses simply are what they are, people migrate and are unaware or unequipped or too busy with their lives, to control these things properly is difficult, without even being a comission of anyone, specifically.

Now how it's useful for political interests, that's a different thing. :)

The main issue with Zika wasn't known until recently, I don't think...that being serious fetal neurological damage.
The government is run by humans, humans screw up. It's what we do.
...The conspiracy theorists seem to ignore the really obvious conspiracy...

The really rich have mostly taken over our government...
...Again...
Because it's not like, historically, we weren't governed by elites, right?
Originally, only white men who owned property could vote, right? And a lot of eligible black people were prevented from voting within the lifetimes of people who are still around.
Too, the right to not be killed or maimed on the job was a long struggle, and still an issue.
Historically, the people at large have always had to actively wrest a modicum of power and control from a system that is not their friend.

ARGH! Yanno, I am here on this site to get better, not argue politics...

Don't live in US anymore, and don't follow US news since it's most often overblow.

Have lived in Tropics, and spent much time there. My current home.

Zika is not a conspiracy to pregnant women. Most others won't be affected. Worry more about the flu, or washing your hands.

But America has much more to worry about as climate changes (uh Florida, Texas, Hawaii, etc), and as species of this mosquito moves further north. I think they are using it for reason to "increase funding for mosquito control." Since they know what's going to happen. They know a more dangerous virus related to Zita is on it's way. Even before Zita there where cases in certain parts of US like Southern Florida.

Main issue is mosquito control. This same species of mosquito can transmit a far much worst virus (no offense meant to any pregnant women.) I spent 2 months in bed as have many others with risk of death with related virus. Unless you are pregnant Zita is nothing to most people. This is about news (increased profits,) and increased funding for mosquito control with so many budget cuts.

But some countries have only started doing public education about mosquito control. It's pretty simply.
-Never leave standing water.
-You see standing water, dump container out. Even a flower pot.
-See a large area of standing water - call your city or town to spray to kill mosquito larva. At least one country has smartphone apps. You just take a picture with gps turned on, and walk away.

I hate the smell of trucks spraying for mosquitoes. And live a natural lifestyle. I don't even like plastic touching my food. Now I welcome those trucks. Talked to other people who have also contracted related virus. They say same thing. Spray and foggers truck are now MORE than welcome now. But unless you get sick with other virus most wouldn't understand if you live natural lifestyle.

Total opposite of how we use to be.

For those that don't know insects have been on earth far longer than humans. Hundreds of millions of years. They will always survive.
