It was spiritual abuse and I am so happy to hear that you are free of it and posting here. Take your time in processing the memories and the pain all tangled up with them. You are a true survivor.

I've stopped pursuing religion as I had tried several out and never could get the grasp of it. It got to a point where I was better off just not worrying about it because it seemed no longer to resonate with me at that time. I'm open to it resonating again, it just hasn't happened yet.

I'm kind of in that place right now. Since my psychosis has gotten worse, I've become less of a reactionary militant atheist, and more open to things, but I stopped actively pursuing religion a time ago.

My father had his own take on religion. We grew up in an evangelical community. My father's take on religion included such things as

1. Black people are all demonic / the children of Satan
2. Physically abusing women and children is a right every man has, given to him by God
3. God hates women / women are inherently evil
4. Nephilim, who are demon/women hybrids, control all the governments
5. Mental illness is really demonic possession, psychiatrists are Satanists who are in on it

And so on.

Your father either:

does not understand his bible.
May practice religion, but does not understand true religion is based on a relationship with Christ. Your father's religious views do not demonstrate a relationship based religion.
