I feel like I shouldn't expect anything except for the obvious, not sleeping on me and actually listening and not judging...?

I think you can expect more than that. Therapy isn't cheap (the money is sometimes the easy bit - the time and energy aren't exactly free). Having an idea of the result you're looking for can help you judge whether the therapy is worth the investment.

Sounds great. I suspect that part of the reason that you want to understand those things is so that you can change them - you may find (as I did) that you're more successful in changing the things that motivate the question than you are in answering the question. So, the question about this therapist (and all therapists) is "What are the chances that seeing this therapist will help me to get what I want?"

If you believe your therapist to be honest (which can be separate to the question of whether they are effective), then telling them what you want can help them to reassure you, and can also focus their attention on giving you what you want.
