I think I suffer from PTSD. Ever since Inwoke up one night having problems breathing, having hubby wish me to the hospital, calling my mother to tell my kids that I love them when I am gone . And telling my hubby that I love him and the kids . Terrified going in the ER telling them please don't let me die ... To find out my heart is in a fib. I remember that over and over . Many times not being able to breathe heart racing thinking again that I am dying . Going to the hospital numerous times . I can't forget that and am still scared that I am going to die . I can't remember the last day that I didn't think about dying . Why .? How to get rid of this? PTSD causing any ailment to make me think I am dying again. Need answers, need support. Thankful for this group. Please tell me what y'all think. Am I the only one?

Anxiety and panic attack...and the "I think I have PTSD" may not be true and if not diagnosed with PTSD it is very dangerous to self diagnose as MANY MANY MANY things cause anxiety, including all 3 of my diagnosis, one being Generalized Anxiety Disorder.

Edited to add: I have an axiety app called What's Up (many out there as well as many websites) that help with breathing exersises, metaphors etc to help. Anxiety and panic attacks wont kill you, they feel that way, but they wont; so it helps to keep that in mind.

Thanks @Mal Content I hope it helps a bunch of people! I know it has been a godsend for me at work, though im on anxiety meds, its still high and ever increasing.

Im doing as well as can be expected. Just realized today how fast everything has moved since the blame shift which was just mid Jan! Its blowing my mind!

Anyway, sorry, dont wanna derail the tread.

Oh and @cjhays you are no where near close to the only one that experiences anxiety.

Im sure everyone here does, most that have any sort of mental disorder usually does and then you have those with just anxiety, like my step mom (though she plays it up).

All anxiety is is the flight or figut response going off in your brain when their is no threat.

It is treatable without meds or therapy, in bad anxiety like I have meds are necessary along with the non-med ways but if this isnt an multiple times a day occurence, that app (or sites with the same concepts) will help, a ton!

Welcome to the Forums :)

Just a little confusion on my part... Are you saying you think you might have PTSD following a heart attack, or you have PTSD from another trauma, and an anxiety attack sent you to the hospital thinking you were having a heart attack?

If the first, there are a few people on the forum who are here following medical trauma

If the 2nd, that's often how anxiety disorder... And/or then later PTSD as past trauma comes to light... Are initially diagnosed. People think they're having a heart attack, the symptoms are near identical, but they're medically cleared. And then, unfortunately, it's not a one off kind of thing (anxiety attacks can happen to everyone), so further investigation tracks down the cause. (GAD, PTSD, etc.).

@cjhays Welcome! :)

When you have gone to the ER, have they given you a diagnosis of anything cardiac related? Was your primary physician ever contacted and was there any follow up? Before you can figure out what is needed to make the situation better, you do need to know what is wrong. If you can't reach out, give a family member permission.

My Gramps has A-fib, as does my father, as do I. It's terrifying. I totally know what you mean about feeling like you are dying. It's possible to have PTSD following that sort of medical event. I hope you are able to get your symptoms under control. Have you seen a counselor/psychologist/psychiatrist about the symptoms you are attributing to PTSD? That's really the only way to find out for sure whether you have it or not.

Have they been able to control the A-Fib with medication?

To find out my heart is in a fib.
This confused me at first, but now I think you mean atrial fibrillation? We use the word 'fib' to me a lie or untruth and that was my initial interpretation until I saw the other replies.

Perhaps if you could answer some of the questions put in other replies we could give you further support?
