What is your favorite musical artist/band?

A lot of the music I've been listening to lately is pretty angry - Five Finger Death More accessible and much more Canadian - Great Big Sea, The Real McKenzies, The Tragically Hip. And for something really different - The Wicked Tinkers :) How could anyone go wrong with bagpipes and didgeridoo?

News Mind control: how to win the war in your head

Maybe I'm biased but anything that mentions Rwanda catches my attention. I also realize I still have a lot of work to do fighting my own inner propaganda. Mind Control: How to win the war in your head

    Depression fatigue

For a long time, I would wake up with a start wondering where (and even when) I was. I would struggle to remember which country I was in and where I had gone to sleep. Having something significant nearby really helps. For me, it's my dog. When I wake and he is at my feet I know I am in Canada...

Overcoming shame and finding self forgiveness

I'm not sure you need to or should forgive yourself. There is probably no way you are going to convince yourself what you did is OK. Instead, try acknowledging your mistake, accept your responsibility, learn from it, and vow not to repeat it. That's the best most of us can do.

    Depression fatigue

Assuming you are already getting therapy and following your treatment plan I suggest you start working on 'rituals'. I found developing a morning ritual really helped with the depressive sides of PTSD. The idea is to set a very small minimum start to the day. If you complete that minimum you are...

News Backfire effect and the amygdala

Yes! That's the way. Engage with people whose views differ from yours. You can disagree, debate, push back and forth and still be civil. Life is not a zero-sum game.

News Backfire effect and the amygdala

No conspiracy required. The dictators of the world have been using their knowledge of people's need to confirm their core beliefs from the beginning of time. That's why it's so easy for them to stand up and yell, "It's the Mexicans", "it's the Muslims", "it's the Jews","it's the old white guys"...

    Ptsd.. noises in head

Hey, @Scott88 to add to @TreeHugger 's questions did the 'noise' start before you were diagnosed? Did it start before you started taking the meds?

    Hypervigilence in driving

Beats me. I'm afraid to check the mail. None of my traumas have anything to do with the mail yet it takes all my courage to check and even more to open it. Sometimes PTSD just doesn't make sense.

    Chest pain

Stress is real. It affects the brain. It affects the body. It is not 'all in the head', as if that makes it somehow less real. Stress kills people. If you really think it is 'just stress' you might want to consider making some lifestyle changes before 'just stress' becomes something doctors...

    Hypervigilence in driving

I'm OK driving here on my little island but anywhere else makes me worry about having a flashback. It was all I could do to hold on till I could find an exit. If I'm stressed I tend to drift back into Afghanistan driving. The cops don't seem to like that much.

Absolutely nothing :) I can't remember the last time I made it through a whole day without feeling some sort of anger. It feels good.

    News Psychology today articles

Psychology Today is to psychology as fitness magazines are to fitness. Both are in the business of selling magazines and advertising, not wellness. New, different, exciting and controversial are what sell. Most people don't want to slog through research publications. They want "30 Days to...

26 minutes of full on nightmares

Sounds like sleep paralysis to me too. It's more common in children but happens to adults as well especially when overtired and with some meds. It is very scary. On a side note, it's thought that the legend of the old hag came from the common experience of sleep paralysis.

Undiagnosed Adult child of combat veteran

If you were a military dependent in Germany during the 60s/70s/80s it was a very pessimistic time. I was a base brat during that time. I remember the sirens and our building's survival shelter. I remember the oil crisis and the autobahns being closed on Sundays to save fuel. I remember my father...
