Hello it has been over 39 years since what I did in NAM. I have a great wife that has put up with my nightmares, drinking, hiding from people an crowds, not wanting or having friends. Been married 36 1/2 years to this wonderful lady with 2 great kids and 3 super grandkids. I drank to get out of my head for over 25 of those years but been dry for over 10 but it is hard on the bad days. I finally decided to get treatment thru the VA a little over 6 months ago. Well after having to relive some of the events I am worse at the present time but if I am to believe the therapyist then their is a light at the end of the tunnel. Why I waited so long. Well my father was a Master Sarge when he retired an as per my up bringing you man'ed up and dealt with it. Well I didn't handle it as well as he did. In therpy I am having to write out the event in great detail with the emotions I was feeling then and now I have to do it again with the emotions that I am feeling now. an then reread it everyday. I sure am doubting the procedures.
On another note: I am going to start attempting to file for benefits because of my PTSD an see where that gets me. I have seen on here that it is not an easy thing to do and very hard process to get thru. Anyone have an suggestions on anyway to make it thru the RED tape. Larry G

Welcome. Glad you are here to get additional support on your healing journey. There are vets here who could possibly help you with your questions about disability.
Glad you are here.

Thank You. Hopefully you are correct. I most likely will need it. I don't have any patience and it is going to take patience so I am told.

Dealing with this stuff takes a lot of bravery, as you're probably discovering. So, sending respect for your strength. I hope this forum helps you as much as it has helped me.
