Lashing out = unprovoked.
Although, I find your entire post worthy... I wish to add from my point of view that I won bantering with an attorney in court of law, the concept of provoked versus unprovoked during a domestic violence case. The attorney was questioning me," Had I provoked the accused?"
I answered,"At what point does provoking warrant violence?"
Although the judge was none too pleased, (as I was to answer a yes or no)...and it was struck from the record...I won the positioning. So my point, lashing out is difficult to define. Sometimes, prior poking the bear will result in the bear waking up from hibernation and grumbling.
Just my 2 cents not to misread as a standard or authorized by anybody important. Just me the bear...:p
