Congratulations, Kris, that's AWESOME! I think I told you, my psych rotations were hard for me in nursing school too. I understand exactly how hard that was, and you deserve to feel very proud of yourself!

Now how much further do you have to go? When do we get to hear the news that you've joined the ranks?

Thank you Kimberly! Thank you ClairBear! I will be graduating in June, I am very excited! I am happy to see a nurse on here who understands my struggles with that class!!!!!:)

Way to go, Kris!

Oh, hon, you have NO idea! (well... strike that... I guess you do!) Forensic lockdown was the hardest for me. Some were pretty hardened criminals that were trying to buck the system, others were quite delusional, some were sex offenders. They were really, truly violent people, and I was in a locked unit with them. With no key to get out. There were verbal threats against me, but nothing physical. Gotta tell ya, though, it was a really challenging time to deal with the PTSD, no question about it. Fortunately, forensic isn't the norm for most nursing programs now from what I understand, so hopefully a non forensic unit was closer to what you had to deal with.

I'll look forward to hearing your progress. June will be here before you know it, and you'll be wearing that pin with pride! Any thoughts about what specialty you're interested in?

I am also a nurse. I have been off work for a year with PTSD. Some days I worry that I'll never be able to go back. Thank you for your post, it doesn't make me feel so alone to know that there are others in my profession who are making it work. Thank you and congrats on your A!!

I just wanted to say Congratulations! :)

I loved Nursing School and wished I could have gone further but I loved working back at my line of work more, especially in light of what I was dealing with at the time.

It's great knowing that you are out there working so hard and I know you will do well. Remember the keys of wellness and don't forget to utilize your support :) Simply well done!
Peace,
Rain
congratulations.webp

Thank you so much everyone!Kai you are definitely not alone and you can do it! Thank you Srain and Nomad!

Clair I am thinking I would like to do a few years of Med/Surg to get a strong foundation. At this point I would also like to do Oncology nursing. But my ultimate goal is to be a nursing administrator. I would really like to deal with management, policy and procedures; plus my background will benefit me in that realm.

Like you I had to do an adult forensics floor at my site. It was tough. I have to say the weirdest part about the whole experience is that I walked in there thinking I could peg and murderer and gang member from a mile away. But what I quickly learned was the people who were "normal" looking were the ones there for the most heinous crimes and the ones who looked like hardened criminals were there for things like arson. I could never do that type of nursing for a living and I hope to dear God I never have to go back to that place!

I'm with you on the forensic psych unit issue. It seems that the more hardened the criminal, the better they were able to hide it. Scary. I did 2 years of Onc/Med/Surg with a smattering of Ortho as my first nursing job. It was a good foundation for later. I can't say I'm with you on the management thing. I'm definitely a Gibbs, not a Vance. But there needs to be good people out there in the management world, so good l uck with it! You need to post a pic when you graduate - I wanna see! :)

LOL, I have a BS in management so I I have been on that path for awhile. Most people think I am crazy when I say I want to work in admin, no pun intended  That is an awesome experience for your first job! I will post a pic when I graduate, I can't wait! Thank you for all your support!
