A Thread Of Good Memories

No sour grapes-I SELL, so would not be inclined to witch over things out of jealousy. In my experience I've found a room full of artists is one which I personally do not find to be a warm and inviting one, much less encouraging. Take care, Anni

Hello anni, all I feel is gratitude for this thread. It's great to be here, took me a long time to even remember a good memory. Maybe I can remember more. I like your post. It reminds me of my years in commercial art/product design. Just realized I can start an album here (I kinda knew that, but then forgot, then remembered!) and may post some images of work past. Do you have some images of work to share?

James I am not surprised to hear that you are an artist. It is evident in your photography. Oh I would love to see the work both of you have done Anni and James. Yes, please do post them!!!!

I am an artist at heart, yes. Either thru words or other medium. My appreciations have changed throughout the years, what I once thought garbage I now find wonderfully creative. Maybe I should pull out my canvasses and brushes, pencils and paper. Not for other's consumption, but instead for my own expression which words cannot seem to reach.

Like you James, I have taken to photography and would LOVE, so dearly love, to have a good camera with lenses. And to take a class or two or three! I find so much beauty around me, especially when out riding or hiking.

My work has no 'deep meaning'-as in 'wel this piece means the end of civilization as we know it' (when the painting shows a black dot on a green canvas-you know what I mean)while the person looking at it nods wisely so they do not look like an idiot because it just looks like a dot to them.

Haha....thanks Anni.......you did make me laugh!

I remember when I was pregnant with our 3rd son we went to see a comedic play entitled "The Empty Nesters". It was about a couple who's last of 3 sons moved out. The wife decided to take her artwork back up again. Planned on turning their pool house into a studio. The first night her husband comes home to find his wife drunk, passed out on the couch. Her canvas standing on it's easle in the dining room. He walks over to it and says "I thought you planned to paint today?" to which she replies "I did, look!". He looks and sees nothing, "Where?" She sobs out "Right there, see the dot? After all these years, that's all that is left in me....." I laughed so hard! Little did I know....a dot.....ha!

I have attached two photos I took this year. I have an idea for one of them but it would require another trip to my mother's place in Tahoe. One which I had planned and fell to pieces due to her selfish desires and cutting words ;o(

The idea is this. To start early in the morning with my youngest granddaughter closeby on the wooden path, her back to the camera. The next would be late morning with my 2nd oldest granddaughter further down the path, then myoldest in early afternoon even further, my daughter in-law comes next, then me and finally my mother at dusk nearing the end of the path. Ah well...dreams ;o)

Thanks for posting those nice pics, Iam. And thanks for the nice comment. I just went insane and ordered this camera from newegg.com. Have built several PC's with their parts and stuff. I will be broke for a week, but will now be able to capture and share some "good memories". This camera is a super deal, $164.95 with top reviews.

Think art is such an individual thing. When I was in L.A. I wanted to do a photo essay of the side walks. All the sketching and all the design stuff I got to do is a good memory, so let me share that and say thanks again.

Cool James!!!!! Is it digital?

My father just took a photo shop class. He is designing bookcovers, signs etc for people. He is 75 years old and is using modern technology....I think that is GREAT! He has started using photo bucket to create all different types of images from his photos. I haven't seen any yet as he lives in N. Calif. He is supposed to email some to me.

I have thought about getting a Cannon. Definitely would need to take a class too. Unfortunately with me having quit work I just don't feel I can afford to invest in it right now.....someday though ;o)

These posts about photo's has brought back some memories of when I used to help my ex husband develop and print black and white photo's.

Funny to think I nearly threw the projector through his car windscreen, just before I kicked him out. Now that has got me smiling, I would have the courage to actually do it today.

Yes Iam, it's digital. The zoom will help me get pics of the birds around here. That' so cool your father is into Photoshop, a very fun, challenging and powerful application. One of the biggies. Have shot cheap point and shoot camera's forever. In the days of film it was so expensive. Now, can go out and shoot 20 pics and it's basically free. IMHO, a good way to start is to go cheap. I used to shoot Canon, also. Then Panasonic got big with image stabilizers, now FujiFilm (brand) is raging with inexpensive point and shoot. Newegg.com rocks Iam, you might find a deal there on an inexpensive starter camera.

Have been shooting with my phone! It doesn't take much. Plus getting familiar with handling/editing image files. This is the first camera I ever had that is halfway between a point and shoot, and a DSLR (digital SLR). The sky's the limit, but getting going is getting easier (and cheaper) than ever. I am just into it casually. Just to record stuff, share and have fun. It's a thrill to go out, take a bunch of pics, then come home, load them on my PC to view them. This new camera will be a fun toy and keep me busy for many days. Can't beat it for the money. Fall is coming and the birds (of all kinds) will be around.

Good luck getting a camera. It will be fun to see some of your pics. Honest, going cheap is a great way to start. :thumbs-up Hope to be seeing some of your pics in the future.

Love hearing your strength and laugh Amethist!

I agree James. My hubby bought me another point and shoot for my birhtday. I have gone thru so many cameras. Finally figured out that maybe putting them in the horn bag on my saddle might not be such a bright idea LOL! Might be ok if I just walked my horse, but I love to gallop and the horn bags go bang, bang, bang. Not so good for an electronic device! I've destroyed 2 that way. Another by diving into a lake to retrieve my fishing rod that a huge fish was dragging into the depths. Forgot to take my fanny pack off with my camera in it before diving in! HA! Could say that I couldn't get a photo of the huge fish I caught because the camera was draining lake water, but alas I must be truthful. The fish was HUGE, the dang thing had taken all my line and was way out, maybe a hundred feet or so. My pole was bent at a 90 degree angle...well almost, and when that fish jumped I whooped and hollered. God it was HUGE! There was a reed stuck in the last eye on my pole, being the consumate fisherman I am I was afraid it would tangle my line so, instead of backing up and asking my husband to remove it for me.....I flicked off and the fish right off my luer at the same time! LOL!

Ahhh.....that was off topic wasn't it? Yes....I should start with a cheap camera. And I do agree....The fact that we no longer have to develop film gives us the freedom to shoot and click to our hearts delight! Can't miss but get a good shot or two just by accident!

Recording Good Memories

That fishing sounds awesome, Iam. Fishing pics would be super cool! And horseback riding.

I totally agree about how electronics devices get wasted in the rugged outdoors. That's why I'm keeping my cheap 'ol Canon, if it gets destroyed, no big deal. You know, we used to cut up a chunk of closed cell foam and make simple cases for our cameras with duct tape, back in the day. Wow, those are good memories too! Taking a camera up a cliff, climbing and stuff, easy to break. Hey, here's a neat water-poof/shockproof beauty. Kinda high end though, but optics in these Panasonics is supposed to be very good. I'll keep thinking of more good memories, thanks.

I'm gonna add to this thread because it has made me make a list of good memories and it's made me realise how easily you can allow trauma to overtake your mindset. I've had such an interesting life for someone only 30. I probably should be a little more grateful and willing to share it with people.

Some Good Memories
- The Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam (I actually cried I was so moved)
- Sipping genuine Italian made Limoncello on the beach in Amalfi in Italy - straight out of the bottle at sunset like a pack of rebellious teenagers
- Kissing on the cathedral steps followed by the best pizza I've ever had
- The view of Sorrento from above
- The most wild night of clubbing in Wales, where I never expected a 'scene'
- Giggling at Birmingham accents (no offence anyone)
- Just landing at Heathrow every time I flew to London (oh what a FEELING when a flight that long is over and you can actually get up and rub your tired and numb a*s)
- Sipping champagne in first class flying to New York City with my Mum beside me and showing her how to work the seat/bed
- Just knowing I was actually able to take my Mum to NYC for a holiday after she'd gone without SO many being a single parent (I’ll die happy after this one - it's my favourite)
- Finding a sketch artist who'd done Eminem in a 'thinker’ pose to send back to Aust for my nephew's bedroom wall
- Rapping freestyle with a man on the street in Times Square at 4am after I'd ducked out for sushi
- The view of Manhattan going over the Brooklyn Bridge at night
- The bittersweet feeling of finishing a song and the awesome feeling of even writing one.
- The fact the demo song in my keyboard is Amazing Grace (my grandmother's name - who I never had the pleasure to meet, but who was a piano prodigy by age 10)
- Simply having the pleasure to know my best female friend from London - the most beautiful person I have ever conversed with... and her amazing blue eyes.
- Getting totally soaked at Edinburgh castle and simply not caring about ‘My hair. My hair’ (hehe – such a girl).
- Clubbbbbbbing in Soho after going to the theatre.
- Watching Titanic on the couch with my first love, wearing only her big baggy Adidas sweater.
- Writing : the only love of my life that I know beyond a shadow of a doubt, will never ever leave me.

Ah Jen.....Your list is WONDERFUL and makes me a bit envious! To travel as you have done....WOW are you lucky! I've been to Hawaii, Canada, The Bahamas and various states here in the US from the east coast to the west, but if I could choose to visit anywhere.....it would be Italy! Such love for your mother....beautiful! Thanks for sharing!

Yes Iam - if you ever get the chance to go to Italy - do it. It's a wonderful 'culture' - they love their food, their art, their families. And its about the only place where making the perfect measurement of foam/crema on a latte truly is 'necessary' .. hehe :)

In the late 70's and 80's I got to do a bunch of rock climbing. This is a friend climbing one of my routes in San Diego, a climb I did many times. Probably 1984ish.
