Talk about some WEIRD AS FAWK naming, that town.

Yes. Named after a person, Peter/Pyoter Kalifornski, given the patronymic “California” / “Kalifornisky” from his time in California, during the Russian colonization of the entire west coast of the USA & Canada. Fled northwest. Very, very, FAR NW.
