After therapy

Good therapy should stir the pot enough for you to process stuff during the week but not so much that you feel unsafe or overwhelmed. Does your T know about how you feel after and between sessions? It's important to tell because they can change the pace of the work to suit you better.

hummm, a good thread.

My "day after therapy" was always the worst. Thinking back now, I think it was because really sensitive issues were discussed that stirred the pot, aroused emotions - sometimes even strentghening them. It was awful.

I think when we're in the safety of the office with a person that we trust to help walk with us, the difficult parts don't always seem as threatening to talk about. It takes time to pull things to the surface, but we can still handle it since we're not alone in it.

Then 'boom' we walk out the door and suddenly reality hits and all the dredged up mess becomes overwhelming. We have to process it - hopefully with some skills or tools, but regardless, there is a ton of mess turning around. I spent so much time just hitting the counter and crying at how unfair life was.

I don't know. It's different for everyone, and depending on where you're at in therapy, the after effects of a session can be more or less devestating.

The really hard part though is to not quit. It's a huge temptation to just stay away, but in the end, it's so much better to push on and confront these demons. It's really the only way to take back what was taken from us.
