An accountability thread due to my relationship with my ex-therapist

Have you made any progress in taking longer to respond to her messages?

I was wondering how it is going. So far you have not reached out to her and that's a big deal. Next time she texts trying waiting 24 hours before you text back.

i don’t know if she is manipulating me.

I think this is a huge part of the problem.

She is by definition manipulating you in that she’s going outside of the ethical code of her profession in order to be friends with you. The whole situation reeks of manipulation.

Maybe work on accepting that she is manipulating you.

Do you deserve to be manipulated?

Hells NO.

Then you can get pissed off at her and allow your anger to motivate you to change.

@Nessa7 i have been able to take longer to respond. I have been doing better and not feeling as obsessive.
@hithere i don’t think I can wait 24 hours yet but I am taking longer to respond.
@EveHarrington i think your right and that is a good way to look at it. I don’t really do anger. I know I should but it is one of the things I’m working on in therapy.

Have you considered a boundary of telling her of one day a week where you can't text or be in contact, so you can focus on family?

Seriously consider making a go of this for real... 1 day a week everyone shut their phones off and put them in a drawer for family-day. If you need to be in contact with each other for a family outing, etc., a pack of walkie talkies is super cheap, or you can go with the more expensive GPS tagged ones for security purposes.

Because it would be a lifestyle change, instead of a targeted directly at your relationship change, you might find you get more traction with it.
