I had a major "ah-ha" moment in parenting tonight, and needed to share it with someone, without my child feeling talked about. I need to share it so I remember it. I am sure others of you have these parents as well. Please, share them, so we can learn from them as well.
My "ah-ha" moment: My child is big time type A personality. And, a typical teenage girl riding the waves of her hormones. Tonight she started weeping and carrying on about a particular lost homework assignment. I realized I listened to this chorus AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK (about an assignment from the EXACT SAME CLASS!), and have always been quick to jump in, soothe her and help her "solve" the problem. And, released her from having to think through how to prevent the problem in the future.
I pointed this out to her, and instructed her on some simple organization techniques....I probably should have asked for her ideas instead, but at least I am making progress!
