Watched Born on the 4th of July today and spent about an hour trying to find an email for Ron Kovic... couldnt, so wrote this open letter instead -
'Dear Ron,
Ive never fought in a war and im not a soldier.... but I know how it feels to go out there with the very best of intentions and have it BLOW UP in your face.... I cannot give you your legs back.... I cannot take the scar you wear like a tattoo, that will surely fade... its permanent and I cannot remove it from you..... what I would like to say is that in some way i can honestly relate to your position.... Ive watched things i didnt want to see.... and afterwards I felt like a child who'd be shown a horror movie that was NOT suitable for my age... I wish youd gotten married.... It hurts me that you are single, and yet I know why... because its HARD to relate to people after something like that....... I'd like to send my blessings, my love, my thanks, my support to you and to all Vietnam veterans who will live forever with something that honestly was NOT THEIR FAULT......... when you cry Id like to catch your tears and remind you that you existed for a reason..... you have inspired many, including me....... you remind us all that god's love is never exhausted, and it will never leave you.....
Thank you for sharing your story and giving me hope that life can go on after 'being the witness'...........
Yours sincerely and blessings and love always,
Jennifer
