Analogy: My Ptsd Feels Like...

My childhood, adolescence and most of my adulthood have been stolen from me by self centered egotistical predators. I feel unhappy, lost, and sad still trying to find a little happiness somewhere.

My ptsd feels like I am in that straight jacket banging my head against the wall. But then I find the scissors and cut myself out of it and burn it forever. And I kick the door down and run out of that cell, screaming "I am free".

Only to find the next morning I wake up and find I am still in that straightjacket in that padded cell and the scissors and lighter fuel have disappeared. And there is now a huge padded lock on that door that is made of 2feet thick steel.

Sometimes, like I am in a tv set and the song by The Doors is playing "People are Strange!" Uh! That is the worst, haven't felt that disconnected in awhile, thank goodness!

I can so relate to that. I pick myself only to fall down again and again and again. I get so tired. I have a good life but my nightmares takes my life away from me every night and every morning I have to force myself to get the scissor and try to cut the straighjacket and cut the lock and come out.
