When you post it, your user account does not own it, hence anonymity, thus... you do not get likes, ability to edit it, etc.

All posts are assigned to the guest account, which the software has in the event some administrators allow public posts to be made.

A thread starter can maintain their username throughout a thread I believe, so people know which responses are theirs. Everyone else, gets randomised on a per post basis.
