I just saw this..not sure who wrote it, but it's floating around the internet. I'm not religious by any means but...this seems very appropriate and fitting.

twas' 11 days before Christmas, around 9:38
when 20 beautiful children stormed through heaven's gate.
their smiles were contagious, their laughter filled the air.
they could hardly believe all the beauty they saw there.
they were filled with such joy, they didn't know what to say.
they remembered nothing of what had happened earlier that day.
"where are we?" asked a little girl, as quiet as a mouse.
"this is heaven." declared a small boy. "we're spending Christmas at God's house."
when what to their wondering eyes did appear,
but Jesus, their savior, the children gathered near.
He looked at them and smiled, and they smiled just the same.
then He opened His arms and He called them by name.
and in that moment was joy, that only heaven can bring
those children all flew into the arms of their King
and as they lingered in the warmth of His embrace,
one small girl turned and looked at Jesus' face.
and as if He could read all the questions she had
He gently whispered to her, "I'll take care of mom and dad."
then He looked down on earth, the world far below
He saw all of the hurt, the sorrow, and woe
then He closed His eyes and He outstretched His hand,
"Let My power and presence re-enter this land!"
"may this country be delivered from the hands of fools"
"I'm taking back my nation. I'm taking back my schools!"
then He and the children stood up without a sound.
"come now my children, let me show you around."
excitement filled the space, some skipped and some ran.
all displaying enthusiasm that only a small child can.
and i heard Him proclaim as He walked out of sight,
"in the midst of this darkness, I AM STILL THE LIGHT."

I could only read that bit by bit. Tough going.

ITL, thank you. Yes, there's been a ton of discussion on that. A hundred bazillion percent true and amazing and up until Friday for some reason not listened to. Ugly tentacles. I am not at all torquing the thread to say I was heartbroken, truly- in that frustrated beyond comprehension and belief to see Boehner's 'offer' on this stupid cliff include 'entitlement' cuts inclusive of parents struggling to cope with children with disabilites. Can't think about it- the adrenline just goes poof. These parents demonstrably need HELP,they've DONE all they can, truly, we are all entitled to not have our babies dead, that mother can't be the one to point at her public cry for help and say LOOK folks, I TOLD you, where WAS everyone??? There's an entitlement program for you Mr. Boehner.

Please please please, this has to go beyond politics- write whatever check is required to be the community these parents require.

If someone wants to go on a rampage and has made up their mind to kill innocent people. Do you really think that making any certain type of gun illegal will stop them from purchasing their guns illegally? I know of places right now where you can buy any kind of weapon you would want and its all under the table. The only people that will obey any new gun laws are people like us. The truly evil and violent will not even be phased in the slightest. They made crystal meth , crack, cocaine, and heroine illegal. Can you still get those things? Arm the teachers and all the faculty, train them and arm them. Hire full time police officers at every school. Don't punish the rest of us for the actions of individuals. The only thing that will save you or your families from a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Disarm all the good guys and we are all f*cked.:(

In what situation would you find yourself in that you would be able calmly go and get your handgun to threaten someones life?
I am always armed. Even in the shower. I am trained and continue sharpening my skills so that I will be better than the enemy who is trying to kill me. And even though I have PTSD oddly enough I am deadly calm in situations dealing with violence. Going to Wal-mart on a busy day, thats another story.

How many of you with guns really think you can pull the trigger faster than a criminal that breaks into your house with a gun?
A flea could fart in the hallway and I would wake up fully alert in an instant. I really am not exaggerating. My ex accused me of being a Werewolf among other things. I respond to violence instantly and savagely. If someone was unfortunate enough to pick my house for a home invasion they would never walk out of here. I have dogs, 24/7 alarm system , surveillance system and if all that fails to deter them there is me. And thanks to the Beast that is PTSD I even sleep in color code Orange. Anyway I am rambling now. Sorry if I did not contribute anything positive to the discussion these are just my own feelings.

I disagree Over9000. Having more gun ownership and easy access to guns does increase the numbers of gun related crimes. And the crime stats show that in countries where gun ownership is lower, crime involving guns is lower per population. America has high gun related crime and half the population own guns. So therefore - more gun ownership per population = more gun crime per population.

And the more people that own guns and the more crime involving guns, the more the popluation believes they need a gun for security and the more access to guns there is and it just keeps on increasing. America is a clear example of this.

Make gun ownership much harder and have much tighter controls = less gun related crime.

And also in the UK, they give gun licences back to violent criminals who have served prison time for violent and abuse related offences, despite vigorous opposition from the police, who rightly claim they are a danger to society.

Every country needs to tighten their gun legislation and control, some to a greater extent than others.

And even though I have PTSD oddly enough I am deadly calm in situations dealing with violence.

I respond to violence instantly and savagely.

I don't know this scares me that you live in such fear that you have yourself living in an full security prison.

And I don't get the contradiction. If you deal calmly with violence you do not respond savagely that is not a calm reaction. That seems like a contradiction.

Sorry, to me it all seems really like an awful way to live. It seems to be a huge sacrifice in quality of life.
