Another Sleepless Night

For the past year I have been fighting with insomnia due to hypervigilance. Have tried sleeping meds that the doc gave me but they just don't seem to work, have tried meditation also. My anxiety over every little noise is just so bad that I am unable to relax enough to go to sleep.

I don't know if it's any help for you, but I listen to a relaxation music CD at night to drown out all the noises in the neighborhood. If I can hear them, they keep me awake. I wake up early on the weekends because of the kids playing in the neighborhood and have to put my CD back on. In the past, I've also used a fan to drown out the noise. I would use ear plugs, but I need to be able to hear if something happens in my house. Y'know?

Do you have any pets?

My dogs sleep with me when I'm on my own. They are a huge comfort. I know they will hear anything and when I wake from a nightmare they are there to bring me back.

Reclusives idea of a fan, like white noise is a good one as is a cd.

Also what about getting security advice from local police, it may help to know that your home is as secure as possible.

Sorry no magic wand but we are here with you.

(((HUGS))) if you take them.

I found this thread interesting. I'm having the same problem. Especially if I extend beyond my comfort zone during the day. My brain won't shut off some nights. Last two nights I woke up in the middle of the night. My dog has taken to sleeping at the head of my bed as if to protect me.

me neither. He's definitely a therapy dog for me, even though he's not certified as one. Plus I'm convinced and i trust his judgement .
